Help! I don't want to end up a racist! I live in a very Asian community. Like, 90% Chinese and I am constantly avoiding near-misses with Asian drivers who seem hell-bent on their own destruction. I have taken to driving at a snail's pace whenever I get within range of a minivan being driven by an Asian because these seem to be the worst as far as changing lanes without any notice. Signaling to turn one way and then *surprise* turning the opposite way. Stopping short in highway merges with no other traffic around or driving at 40 miles an hour through residential streets with children on them. It's truthfully some of the worst judgment I have ever seen. I think there are lots of great things about my Asian neighbors but their driving is downright dangerous. Is this a normal conclusion to come to? I know it's a very easy stereotype but I have found it to be frighteningly true. I am sure there are exceptions, as with any rule. I do fear for my life at times with what I regard as a hazard of living where I live.
So maybe when immigrants from these countries come here they drive the same way as in the homeland.
Hey, what the fuck are those yellow lines in road?
gotten ticketed for speeding out of school when the officer was sitting right at the exit in plain sight with his blues on.
wrecked a car because you just can't go from 60 to 0 on slush as fast as you can on dry pavement. He was also doing double the speed limit.
ran into his best friend's stone wall and destroyed it.
Most stereotypes seem to have at least half-legitimate origins.
if you don't want to stereotype, just take racial terms out of your vocabulary as much as possible. (i.e. "that person drives crazy!" vs. "that asian drives crazy") if you stop using race as a way to label people, you'll have a harder time stereotyping. you'd be surprised how much just changing the way you word things can affect your thoughts.
sorry if this sounds hippyish
and when i tell others this, they say I'm racist!

Middle aged asian adults are very wreckless when driving, and they hate it when they can't have their way. The ones from my Vietnamese church like to park in prohibited areas. They don't give a crap about tickets/fines.
What did you expect?
