Asian drivers are dangerous?

Help! I don't want to end up a racist! I live in a very Asian community. Like, 90% Chinese and I am constantly avoiding near-misses with Asian drivers who seem hell-bent on their own destruction. I have taken to driving at a snail's pace whenever I get within range of a minivan being driven by an Asian because these seem to be the worst as far as changing lanes without any notice. Signaling to turn one way and then *surprise* turning the opposite way. Stopping short in highway merges with no other traffic around or driving at 40 miles an hour through residential streets with children on them. It's truthfully some of the worst judgment I have ever seen. I think there are lots of great things about my Asian neighbors but their driving is downright dangerous. Is this a normal conclusion to come to? I know it's a very easy stereotype but I have found it to be frighteningly true. I am sure there are exceptions, as with any rule. I do fear for my life at times with what I regard as a hazard of living where I live.
Do you think it's normal?

I havent witnessed any of these asians but sounds about right anyways.
I think a lot of them buy their licenses here. If they can barely speak english how can they pass the test or read road signs
In a lot of asian countries, you have the roads filled with cars, bikes, animals etc all at the same time. There are no lanes, you kind of drive where you can. Also there is mud and potholes so you have to drive a bit erratically.

So maybe when immigrants from these countries come here they drive the same way as in the homeland.

Hey, what the fuck are those yellow lines in road?
Why don't you just move another part of the area?
Because I have a nice house, the schools are excellent and my nearest neighbors are pretty nice. I should be driving an armored personel carrier but otherwise it's pretty sweet.
must be easy to get take out and get your laundry done.
My closest Asian friend has:
gotten ticketed for speeding out of school when the officer was sitting right at the exit in plain sight with his blues on.
wrecked a car because you just can't go from 60 to 0 on slush as fast as you can on dry pavement. He was also doing double the speed limit.
ran into his best friend's stone wall and destroyed it.

Most stereotypes seem to have at least half-legitimate origins.
well billy, in most asian contries they only ride bikes so when they get here and see BIG AMERICAN CAR HORY COW they go crazy.
You are an idiot. Not all Asians or anyone not from a non-English speaking country can be assumed to not be able to speak English...damn how do you know they werent born "here". And wtf I never even heard of this stereotype before. To you lady, you already hold the notion that Asians are dangerous drivers and when you see this, already, in your mind, youve established grounds on where you can justify for your racism

I would not say ALL Asian drivers are dangerous but I would say, and this is anecdotal at best, that the most consistently dangerous driving I see in my predominantly Asian neighborhood IS being committed by Asians. The sun visor while driving thing has proven exceptionally dangerous around here. Not only was I almost hit a few times by ladies sporting this type of headgear and the white cotton gloves, I witnessed a very near miss last Friday morning with another lady dressed similarly. She never really stopped in the 4-way stop. She never saw the other car using the intersection. Why? Because her fear of sun damage weighed more heavily on her mind than her actual safety behind the wheel. Or anyone else's. I had a mind to report her and her headgear to the police. Sorry if it is a stereotype but around here, these folks have no idea how dangerous their behavior is.
haha. im half japanese and im a great driver. i mean i drive a little to fast at times. but otherwise im a great driver.ive witnessed other asians arent good drivers. so yeah i guess its normal.
I think it relates to the phenotypical ocular traits. The spatial processing of these people is limited at best. Combined with inadequate English language knowledge results in tragedy on the roads.
hahaha... yeah, i saw lot of asian mom waring those sun visor (even my friend), the oven mitt thingy is to protect from sun damage (my aunt has a pair of those long sleeve sun protector). oh, for the writing test, you can choose what language you prefer. i know they have korean, japanese, tagalog, vietnam, mandarin, even indonesian. i didn't know they had indonesian, i took it in english. also, they usually got the answer from the back of the yellow pages book (chinese version). and it's true in my country they drive really crazy, they cut off people, change lane without notice. i don't drive myself, i barely passed the driving test. spent over $1000 on driving lesson. i freak out if i have to drive. my dad does not want to buy me a car since he's paranoid i'm gonna hit someone. i always live close to campus, so i can walk to school. btw, do you live in walnut?
i have an asian friend that drives crazzy she lets her baby not wear sit belt and she actualy in the past have done accidents for money purpously and this one time some asians try to make accident to me and my mom then took out their camera so yes their stupid drivers and sometimes do it for the fuck of it $$$
well, if 90% of your community is asian, then the majority of people driving crazy will be asian too. so when you only pay attention to cars, when they're driving crazy, then yeah they'll likely be asian.
if you don't want to stereotype, just take racial terms out of your vocabulary as much as possible. (i.e. "that person drives crazy!" vs. "that asian drives crazy") if you stop using race as a way to label people, you'll have a harder time stereotyping. you'd be surprised how much just changing the way you word things can affect your thoughts.
sorry if this sounds hippyish
Where I live, it's not the Asian drivers you need to worry about. It's the young Puerto Rican drivers. They tend to floor it in parking lots, roads and highways alike. Personally I've never known an Asian that drove like a maniac.
I would have to disagree with all of this! 100% of asian people can't drive. DUH. It's a proven fact. sorry.
haha, yeah they suck.
LOL I'm asian and yea i do notice that some of "our kind" can't drive to save our own lives
and when i tell others this, they say I'm racist!
That's why I don't drive.

you say you live in an area that is 90% chinese. this means whenever you have a close call in traffic, chances are the person in the other car is going to be chinese. this doesnt mean that all asian people are bad drivers, it means you are taking notice of their ethnicity everytime you have a near accident. that sounds kinda racist
An Asian guy driving a red Porsche crashed into someone's house in my street. After that the council put up all these extra signs and put more lines on the road.

Lol not all Asians are chinky. XD
Teenage asian boys like to street race.
Middle aged asian adults are very wreckless when driving, and they hate it when they can't have their way. The ones from my Vietnamese church like to park in prohibited areas. They don't give a crap about tickets/fines.
Majority Asian community.
What did you expect?
Not very fair to take this out purely on Asians. I think we should reverse the statement altogether: there are only a few nations in the world where drivers are actually pretty decent and orderly. I was just at Athens a few weeks ago and their driving was absolutely crazy too! It depends a lot on the culture. Sometimes, people just don't bother driving by the law.
I just couldn't resist sharing this experience...As I was getting my mail in my subdivision, I noticed a car driven by an asian had bypassed the street it needed. (The street was my street, a crescent street.) Instead of pulling into a driveway and turning around, he stop in the middle of the road and proceeded to put it in reverse while waving the cars behind him around with his hand out the window. (Yes people were honking.) So a bit later I left to go to the supermarket. No joke, the same car was on the other outlet side in my crescent, trying to reverse out onto the intersecting street. He was in the middle of the street yet again waving the car that was honking to turn in. So why he couldn't turn into a driveway yet again? Not sure. Why he couldn't just drive around the small crescent in drive/forward? Not sure about that either. It was quite amusing though :-).
Asians are dangerous
I haven't encountered a lot of bad asian drivers. The ghetto black ladies in my area are the dangerous ones. They will nearly sideswipe my car while giving a "You better move or I will cut you look".
God! What's with the racism? Not all Asians suck at driving. Even other races could have speeding tickets or accidents too. Why are you guys always assuming only asians suck at it? %uE334
I have to agree, Asians are some of the worst drivers in the world. Only NEW YORKERS are worse drivers than Asians.
