yeah. Waste of a post dude. Plenty of people are communist. It's common sense to say that thinking in terms of pro-communism is normal.

How is it a waste of a post? The truth is I didn't care if it was normal or not I was just sick of reading sex stories. So I did my part to remedy the situation by posting this. It's a legit isitnormal question, and I'm sorry to all of the above, but in America it is not normal to be a communist. We have brainwashing in the schools to take care of that.

Schools teach more balanced views of communism now. The propaganda has faded a bit.

Shaver has the situation pegged exactly as far as the test questions go. But the propaganda in the schools isn't necessarily blatant, but I find that the majority of my classmates who I remain in contact with are very anti-communist/socialist. And strangelad, why do your questions matter? What matters is that the bourgeoisie or business owners are the only ones who profit from industrial production. The proles who work in the factories still have to pay for the products they work to produce. Only the higher-ups get free products, and they are also the ones who make the big money. The workers are left paying twice for products. Once with their time to make them, and again when they are buying the product. What results is that the wealth moves into the hands of the business owners, and as they compete with other businesses, the number of businesses shrinks until the wealth is consolidated into the hands of a few people.

What is a 'balanced view' of Communism?

You're thinking Stalinism. The USSR was not Communist. This is exactly what I mean when I talk about brainwashing in the schools. This poor bloke has no idea what communism is. He just knows that a bunch of people who claimed to be communists did horrible things in Russia. There has never been a large-scale communist government. Ever. The closest thing to real communism are the small communes scattered throughout the world.

Communism is all well and good in theory, but unless everyone in a society that practices it believes in it unfalliably, then it will ultimately fail. Which is why it is not a good system of government. I do not hate communists, and I think it is sad that communism cannot work, but that is just how it is.

Exactly, I do not believe in forcing people to be communist. I also do not believe that it is possible for a communist government to have a military and survive. I do speculate though, that if enough like-minded people were to get together, and land were acquired, we could have a self-sufficient commune.

I think you are right, but it would have to be a small community of incredibly devoted people, or else greed and lust for power ( 2 very large components of the human condition) would wreak havoc on it. I personally like capitalism (maybe because I am upper-middle class, educated, and a white male in the U.S.), but the theory of communism is easily the best system of governance for everybody as a whole, if it could work.

Yeah, I was thinking of some sort of test for prospective members to make sure that they a) understand the concepts of communism, and b) are smart enough to make decisions that will benefit the community. The truth of the matter is, I'm not a hard-core communist because I distrust people and have a low opinion of the average American, and I would probably have a low opinion of average people in other nations too, but I haven't met a large enough cross-section of them to make a generalization. So basically, if I'm going to be living in a direct democracy, I'm going to make damn sure it isn't a community of lemmings, which is what a large portion of the American public seems to be. Until I can figure out how all of these things can work out without exploding, capitalism and representative democracy is fine by me. And yes, it is nice to have a discussion every once in awhile, especially one that doesn't involve mudslinging.

Well, good luck with all that. I agree about the average American, but suspect it is the same everywhere.

Smithee, duke and I have just had a pretty good discussion on communism. If you had read that, you probably wouldn't have posted as you did. Russia was never a communist nation. That's called pseudo-communism, and it can be found in many places throughout the world, including china, north korea, and I believe cuba, but I'm not sure.

Communism is a great government. I agree with it fully, however the human nature does prevent it from ever being fullfilled. Now, Russia did follow Marxism to the letter, except Stalin never let the government crumble. Who would? Without a government, the people are mindless fools with noone to guide them, in the eyes of Stalin anyways. A false communism? Nah. I would call it...more of a unfullfilled communism...or maybe half-way communism. I mean, they followed the Communist Manifesto to the letter...minus one part. Letting the government fall and letting the people do as they wish...which wouldn't work out too well. Once that happens, you'd have another greedy nation just move on in and reap the rewards of the lack of a government and military.

Now, before I get flamed by someone for being anti-communist...I am not. I think communism can work, and I am an American (Big whoop, however...because socialism, as Lenin said, is the first step towards communism...or was it Orwell who said that...oh well...but, most of the public colleges are socialist)..the only thing communism needs is to be revised...also, it needs a lack of the human nature. The Communist Manifesto is flawed. Communism cannot come about through a violent revolution. Violent revolution requires a military, and military is the antithesis of communism.

Sorry Smithee, Russia was a military dictatorship plain and simple. That's just the way it was. Communism is a specific form of government which is a direct democracy with a planned economy. Russia had a planned economy, but if you were the first one to stop clapping, Stalin either had you shot or sent to the gulags. Does that sound like direct democracy to you?

The 20's and 30's were part of the golden age of communism in America. They were on strike, spearheading the supporters of the minimum wage. When we think communism today, we think the Soviet Union. They were pseudocommunist. Stalin was a cruel dictator, but communism is a system. The system is great, but it can only work if people cannot be corrupt. This is why leaders like Stalin existed. It is in theory a good system, but it does not consider human nature. If a communist nation could be established in which everybody was actually communist, then it would be successful.
