Death of a newborn

Ok, So my dad has this vacation home thing. And he made it into a farm like thing, we have sheep goats, and lamas (alpacas, but same dif)

So this morning, its -1 degrees F, and as a 15yr old guy, I can't really complain without looking like a sissy.

Me and him go to check on the new born baby sheep.

There is a REALLY pathetic looking newborn baby on the ground, mother KICKING it!

its freezing, and there is ice on its fur.

I take it into the car, to try to save its life, it was still alive then.

Waiting for my dad, I constantly check back to see if the baby sheep is ok. When he comes, I drive back to the cabin (the sheep were in a farmhouse thingy that is about 1/4 mile away from his "cabin")

When I get to the cabin, I look in backseat, sheep is no longer breathing, even tho I had had the heater on for 5 minutes!

I rush it inside, and put it into hot water. Quickly, I give it CPR, but to no avail, I spend an hour trying to revive it anyway I can.

The sheep is dead. This happened this morning.

Is it my fault? The sheep was still alive before we took it into the car to warm it up. It stopped breathing sometime during the carride, and I didnt knwo when it heart stopped.

once again, I ask, is it my fault? I cried when it finnally hit me that the sheep was dead.

I just cant stop thinking how It was alive before I tried to save it, and died as I tried saving it. Would it have survived if I didnt interfere?

I would like your opinions, thank you.
Do you think it's normal?

There was nothing you could do, it was bound to die. I applaud you for going to great lenghts to try to save it. Bravo. Look at it this way, you did the best you could, you tried your best, it was meant to happen I think. Its alright to feel sad about it, but its ok, just a part of life I guess.
It proably wasn't your fault, but even if it was, your actions speak for themselves. From the sound of it Smithee is right, it was bound to die. At least it died in a warm place.
Thanks guys, this site really helps with all my mundane issues that make me sad.
Your welcome, don't feel bad remember, you did your best.
Yes...ok...you tried your best but were talking about something we slaughter daily to feed our faces. The ewe was probably kicking it as her instinct told her something was wrong with it. It's their way of being cruel to be kind. Although its good to see you gave a shit.
yeah i'm sure this poster realized that. But think how great it would've of been if the lamb survived. In a tough world we live in, its nice to have people like this doing good stuff to nature and its also good to see a decent human being in this world. So it seems to me that you would probably just look at it and leave claiming it was "nature doing its thing" Yes the instinct thing I believe but I mean give it a try, you never know maybe the lamb could of survived?
Yeah, it would have died anyways.

I dont think fido was saying he would just walk away but he has a point the mother ewe was aware something was wrong with the lamb thus puting it out of its misery.
omg you sound so cute!! i think it is adorable that you tried to save the baby sheep!! it is ver unfortunate that it died... but dont blame yourself you did the best that you could possibly do!!
omg sad...:(
thats sad but thanks for teh comment it really helped
You are going to make a wonderful husband and father some day. You are a kindhearted soul. Those don't come around to often anymore!

Stay sweet! :)
lol! munchie you r teh bestest! listen to her buddy. don't come back here. infact, stop reading comments now b4 some sad sap types rubbish here.
NO! This is not your fault at all. You tried to save the little fella and you did your best.

That was a beautiful thing you tried to do. You need to stop blaming yourself. If you didn't try to save him, he would've died anyway....at least you tried mate. Now move on and give yourself a break.
no, darling. it isn't your fault. you tried to do what was best which was to save a sheep's life. very few people would do this.
Aww this is so sad. But no, you did what you could. Just from being outside and freezing and other stuff, it just happens. Thats how life is. =[ But its NOT your fault. Just darn old natures.
you should of tried having sexual intercourse if the CPR didnt work.
It is strange how quikly life is lost but how slowly gained. It would have taken hours just to sustain what little life it had, but seconds to crush it. It had to happen, its existence was incomplete.
I think your gayness killed it.
Definitely a homo.
Dukepost your GAY!!! The guy is feeling bad and you have to post something like that!
You know it's too bad that people don't care for other humans the way this guy tried to take care of this lamb!
We to often get caught up in ourselves to thing about the needs of others! Phil Collins had a song out think it was called, "Paradise" where it talked about people like that!
Some of us need to learn from that young kid!
What, learn how to be gay?
MMMMMMMMMMMM
Lamb chops for tea tonite
Thats sad. It's not your fault if it died God planned for it to die...God knows everything thats going to happen u know.
His mother killed him, not you.
its so sweet that you tried to save it, but im sure that
@: zanthis
lol sorry my bird landed on the mouse and i couldnt fininsh my comment.. *continues* the mother prolly thought it was dieing, but u did the right thing. somenthing i would do as well. its not ur fault. but im sure u will grow over it =] think about all of the other baby sheeps =]
well im not a strong believer of God, and if I was, i still wouldn't believe or say that he knows everything thats going to happen, cuz there is too many lifeforms to know and/or create whats going to happen to it.
aw how cute you care about animals.=]
As an owner of 5 cats, a guinea pig, a snake, and a lizard, this really broke my heart. I'm sure you must realize, at least intellectually, that there was nothing you could do. One of your other respondents commented that the mother was probably kicking it because she realized it had no chance of survival. Perhaps that is true. This may seem cruel, and yet if the creature had no hope of survival, it may have been the kindest thing the mother could do. You are never wrong to care enough for an animal to try to nurture it even when the odds are bleak. In the long run, it makes you a better person. I admire you.
their was nothing u could do but did u eat it after?
