Depressed at the mere sight of a pretty girl?

I'm a young girl, and not exactly what everyone would call attractive. I however, think I am very pretty. But, for a very long time, I can't help crying inside, and sometimes it amounts to crying on the outside, whenever I see a "pretty" girl.

I automatically get depressed at the mere sight of one. I cannot look someone in the eye very long, I absolutely cannot look at food, and I just stare into space.

Is this normal?

There is nothing to ever cry about. Yes, there are models, there are girls that were born beautiful, but WHO defines what beautiful is? I'm sure you're a beautiful girl. I myself get jealous whenever i see a pretty girl, but its never ever anything to cry about.

Just remember, if they're pretty, they're most likely a mean b*tch. It helps me, maybe it'll help you.

there are many times in life when we feel outcast and alone. now is the time for you to make a critical decision: will you let this problem shape who you are for better or worse? it may not seem so to you now but there will be very many opportunities for you to define who you are by your actions, not your looks. there are many people who have the bad luck to be born poor, diseased, and yes, unattractive. and yet, there are many in among these that go on to make extremeley positive impacts on their communities and beyond. this may all sound cliche to you, but think about it. you can allow your circumstance to push you into eating disorders, cutting, and all sorts of other aweful things. OR, you can pull yourself together and become stronger. i suggest you spend more time with friends and family, learn to appreciate what amazing things life has given you, and take on the largest challenges you can in education, fitness, and socializing. hang in there! we're all in it together.

sweety i am sure you are beautiful! i also had times where i felt insecure and ugly but believe me it is all about confidence!most of the guys like girls with confidence! be confident that is the most important thing.I have many friends who are so pretty but their personalities are like shitt seriously and my friends who are guys like hate them so much cause of their personalities! So be confident and don't let anyone make you cry i am so sure you are beautiful!=)

I used to be like that. But, once I started high school ...I've been told 5 or 6 times I am really pretty and I've recieved attention from guys even though they're a waste of my time. Too clingy. It's the way you carry yourself. Own it, be yourself and have your own style. But.. be sensible and have fun :)

I'll tell you what. I have seen girls that are not that beautiful in the face or body, but they have this charisma and confidence that makes the entire stare at them. Focus on the things you can change or fix first like diet, exercise. A fit body is amazing to have. I have been chubby and flabby until 2 years ago. I decided to go to the gym and actually sweat. Now I am 30 with a better body than I could have ever hoped for after a lifetime of flabby belly and cottage cheese thighs. Next, groom. Make sure your nails, eyebrows, teeth, are clean and done. Your clothes are clean and ironed. Your shoes are clean. I promise you, this will give you the confidence to stand next to any plastic barbie doll with your head held high. Don't forget to nurture your brain, and learn to be happy. A smiling, laughing girl attracts more men than a brooding serious hottie.

I don't understand how envy and insecurity could not be considered normal people in ANY teenager, we're all like this for the most part unless we're lucky enough to be the flawless ones.

Too sensitive, it would be awkward for me to hang around a person like that. G'luck though, I suggest to just get over it.

I used to be the same way but not as bad. I think if it doesn't improve you might want to talk to a therapist. But it might just be teenage insecurity and boredom.
