I wouldn't. I couldn't hit a child, just because I'm not that cruel, and I wouldn't hit my teenager because at those ages, he's old enough to reason and think without violence. Non-violence is a virtue we strive to instill in our children, isn't it? Are we hypocrits?
The term "spanking" in my interpretation of it is discipline given to the bottom most region of a person's body and by the hand. I am not even talking about "a rod" as suggested in the old testament of the Bible. "Spare the rod,spoil the child".
I never said anything about spanking a child. Child meaning; one who is considered a minor. An eighteen year old for a girl is not a minor. An eighteen year old boy, though still sometimes considered a minor, may be refered to as an adult.
If young adults have not used their knowledge given to them to the age of eighteen, then a spanking on the place designed for such an action might save their lives. An undisciplined person is not able to fully function as a responsible, mature adult and is able to bring harm to themselves and to other people.
Now days when children, teenagers and young adult go uneducated by their parents as to correct behavior, these children end up as wards of the state, taken away from the parents who do not take full responsibility for them,(no matter what they do). Now is this fair to the child or teenager who are minors with very little say as to where they live when their parents ignor them?
DISOBEDIENCE is the core of all sinful,wrong, and profound behavior. Parents are given children to raise up to be responsible, mature adults. If they do not have to spank them, that is good. It would be a last resort, even for the young adult still living at home.

Would you yell & hit in adult relationships? No. You'd look like an out-of-control idiot and lose any respect - & if you hit people, would be charged with assault.
Kids need discipline; not undisciplined parents who lash out & scream. If you are losing your cool then take a time out. Learn how to understand, redirect and teach kids. It is non-violent and works.
A child needs loving and understaning parents. An irresponsible parent needs the discipline, not the child.
And I totally agree with the hitting being wrong and on so many levels. I don't want to be hit and therefore I do not want to hit someone.
Discipline starts when the child is young. The word discipline also means training. Education is training. "Train a child in the way that leads them in correct ways, and they will not depart from it".
