Okay, I tend to revolve around dark and violent things. I'm not gothic, but I do like to dress in black and I find a lot of gothic things interesting such as gothic art, poetry, alchemy, etc. I'm a writer, and the kind of things I write are mostly horror. I love vampires (not the lame twilight kind), witches, ghost, and original fairy-tales (not the Disney spoofs, but I mean the one's that came straight out of Brothers Grimm). My whole world tends to revolve around death, darknes, and horror, but that's not to say I'm not a happy person. I very much have am fascinated by life, as well, and I'm just closer to the dark of the world a little more than most people.
Anyway, all of this being said, my family hates it. They think I need to change my facebook book I have gothic photos on there, and my username is Darkprincess. They don't like that I buy alchemy jewelry and where a lot of black because they say that it gives a bad impression. Personally, I don't care what people think of me, but is my attire really offensive? They tell me I shouldn't be so dark, but does the darkness offend people. I didn't have many friends in high school, moslty sat by myself at lunch, but the people I did talk to didn't seem to be offended by it (but I guess that's because they had the same interest. Duh!) In middle school theater, I got a repituation for having "dead boyfriend jokes". I've gotten the "crazy" face a few times before after showing people a few of my collected photos. I can kind of understand that because the photos I collect are pretty morbid, but I've gotten the face from the stories I've written too, and I see that as just entertainment. It's no different than going to see a horror film. This isn't necessarily an "Is It Normal" question. I assume it is normal because I've had friends that are the same way, but I just want to know if it offends people or not.

People find offense in silly places. And no matter how much you try to match the ideas of others, someone will take offense to it. Don't give it a second thought. Who cares if you make someone uncomfortable, that is their problem, not yours.
I don't think your closer to the "dark of the world" more than others, closer to the dark myths and stories, such as vampires, etc shows that.
Liking dark things doesn't make anyone evil, so people won't see you as such, but they may see it as irritating, which people do for no valid reason but it happens.
Dark in the sense of supernatural and dark stories, yes.
Not evil in the main sense that Evil wears a mask of innocence and wouldn't make their likes so known to the public and would dress in ways most would like.
No need to change, there's nothing wrong.
Otherwise, if folks are offended by what you do they're probably a bit overly sheltered and could benefit from seeing some thing out if the ordinary.
And there is no need to have patience with Criminal Justice, unless you mean you're too impatient to uhm... read?
But, whatever you want to do I guess.
In your own words: "my family hates it"
Not only that, but if you actually have your own children one day, and they see this shit, I think you won't hear the end of their screaming.
Seriously its not going to work in the long run.
Writing stories is one thing (a good thing) But having morbid pictures around? VERY strange.
I hope its something you grow out of personally.
Supernatural and fiction (being the same thing) is really meant for teenagers playing around. Once you're older it just won't fit into normal society unless you're going to be an undertaker.
Yes its true I tend to go against the crowd.
But quite obviously I'm on your family's side on this.
Its like KeddersPrincess said, these images are usually rated R for restricted audience. Its not for the general public to see.
I can honestly see women walking past staring in disgust if these things are presented outside the home. Although obviously its not a sexist issue.
I suppose what I meant about fiction was that we all do grow up. Yes its all fun and amusing seeing scary movies etc, but not ALL the time. Plus no one expects to live that way!
Really the writing is good. Even pictures in a book or on a movie screen. But not in real life or at home. I mean what type of girl is going to be invited around to stay the night? Obviously sweet and innocent is off the list.
Pretty sure most girls would take one look and say, woops wrong house, I'm outta here before you decide to use living examples in your pics.
Just think how your parents would think of this. Their only escape would be knowing (!) that oneday you'll hopefully grow out of this morbid fascination. Again writing books or creating movies could be a worthwhile excellent idea. But living it? No.
You just need to learn to accept us, just because we're different does not mean we are bad.
if its dark, keep it where it belongs, in the dark
I don't think some people find it offensive, some people are just stupid and maybe scared? No one sits next to me on the bus because of the way I look, they give me funny looks and move on, that kind of thing.I'm not sure really. I may look dark and evil, but I'm probably the sweetest person you'll ever meet. xD
Oh and a Vet; Doctor; Zookeeper; Child care worker; actually this list is never ending. Although I see that car repo people like this type of look. Wow junk yard jobs, sweet.
I'd never want to be a child care worker...EVER! I'd rather eat my own arms and legs. And as for those other jobs you listed, not up my alley. I want to be a writer as I am creative, and I can only see myself in the arts industry.
