I hate every gift giving day there is.
Every gift is a debt.

But if he doesn't know it's your birthday, how can he give you extra special sex favours?

If you customarily are given gifts by these people on your birthday and wish not to receive a gift than tell them, but BE POLITE and be very informal about it/casual. If they are people who have not given you a gift in the past, then mention nothing about gifts. I wouldn't wait until the day before to inform those you don't want a gift from since they may have purchased one already, either do it several days in advance (Wed. at latest) or not at all. And, if anyone does give you a gift whether you informed them or not about not wanting one, be gracious, very polite and thank them for being kind regardless of whether you like it or hate it.

Just to let you know, join the club, I wrote thank you letters for years to relatives after receiving birthday and Christmas gifts I never wanted but they always sent me. It was a relief when they passed on and all the letters were no longer necessary. I know it sounds cold but true. Hope this helps.

I do love to give gifts when it is genuinely someone I truly like, not just someone I feel I have to reciprocate with a gift because they got me one. Then there's those people who are impossible to pick out a gift for and shopping for one is aggravating and time consuming. I'm one of those problem people too, who doesn't care for much and prefer to get my own, particularly clothes where I'm very selective. The gift certificate comes to mind as an idea, but it's often looked at as an easy way out and not imaginative. Then comes the hassle of having too many people to shop for and having to return some dreadful stuff that you hate, privately so the other party doesn't get insulted. That's a rough take on gift giving and why some don't like it, or at least my side.

xprincessx idea sounds the best if it is just one or two people, but if it is a lot of friends, tough to make it work.
