I remember back when I was 3 and my parents used to take me to church and read me the bible and christian childrens books. But I never used to believe any of it. Even then I thought my parents were morons for believing in something comparative to a Dr. Suess story. I always thought for myself and analyzed everything my parents taught me. I was aware of my elementary school friends back when I was young who were christian extremists and wondered how they could ever believe in some story created 2000 years ago. Was anyone else this enlightened at that age?

How funny that you call yourself both an atheist and enlightened. Enlightenment is usually associated with spirituality, which is not associated with religion necessarily, but it isn't associated with atheism either. When I was three I was a very conscious, thinking child myself. I never believed in Christianity either. It is interesting how some children are able to be brainwashed from the beginning, but others think for themselves at such a young age. You are normal. Religious fundamentalists are not; they are mentally ill.

Um, "enlightened" has several meanings, and does not always have to do with that which is spiritual. "Enlightened" can also have to do with the mind. A child prodigy's mind may be enlightened, but this doesn't mean it has any connection to spirituality.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
No, this is not normal. In the context of the entire human race, being atheist is not even close to "normal", since atheists are far outnumbered. Espicially one that grew up in a christian background.
However, I'd like to point out that I am also an athiest that grew up around christians.
I'm just saying that just because I'm like you doesn't mean that it's normal.

Er, everyone was an atheist when they were babies. The parents and their society indoctrinated them to follow that certain religion.

Well, yeah most kids would believe everything adults say, it's amazing how you can think for yourself at that age. I only realized the warped logic people presented to me when I was 13. (parents catholic)

It's simply having no faith. That simple.

I just read a book about Atheism, and one idea of notable interest from it is that we're all born as Atheists, we don't learn religion until it's taught to us.

Yeah I agree. I went to bible classes when I was in first all the way through seventh grade. Never believed any of it. But it was nice to see friends and all. Plus they gave away free stuff.

But I remember being in the first grade and we were coloring pictures from scenes from the bible and I remember thinking..'adults believe this'..'I DON'T'.

Not really, but because most adult authorities at that age kept telling me I would 'go to hell' for lying to my parents about eating my lunch at school or saying a swear word, I came to somewhat resent religion.

Lol, I'm a Christian but I do not listen to what anyone has to say, I live my life as a christian should live their life, I do not force others, I do not shun people because of their religion or because they are without a religion, I do not try to convert people either, by saying "YOU ARE GOING TO HELL" I don't even believe in hell, I believe the ultimate punishment would just be death, you will not be able to be borned again. I do not think the whole "lake of fire" thing meant that you would be burning in it for eternity.

Same here. I was raised without any religion, but I never had an interest in it. I don't think young children have any interest in religion until society/their parents indoctrinate them.

Wow you have got to have been the smartest 3 year old ever it took me years of conflict with myself to realize that its all bullshit I was raised in a Christian home I don't think I'll ever be able to tell family that I no longer believe in god it just doesn't make any sense the bible is filled with rambling of incoherent stuff all written by mad men its like a maze apparently the ten commandments says thou shall not kill yet theirs countless verses in the bible where god is instructing people to kill if you work on the sabbath you must be "put to death" its a fucking joke if that's the case we all need to load our shot guns and head to walmart or any local supermarket its all a joke not to mention that god is always inexplicably absent when horrible tragedies happen ! I'm over religion just gonna live my life the best way I know how good post btw

I was. When I was about five I asked my mom if god exists. She said that no one knows that. She is agnostic. Ever since then I've always thought that was the best answer, anyway I didn't understand why people believed in god. I thought I was supposed to believe in god but it seemed so ridiculous to believe in something that doesn't even have any evidence. around the age of nine I realized I don't believe in god. (My exact thought was: "...There is no god..)
