Ever feel like your being followed? - 46% Normal

Okay, here is my story. Ever since I started Secondary School, I have had to walk home on my own. In Primary I used to walk home with my sister who is 1 year younger than me. Sometimes I walk home with my friend but she can't walk me to my door as we live in different streets.
Anyway, when I am walking home, I always feel like I'm being followed, but when I turn around, no one is there.
It gets worse, sometimes I hear footsteps right behind me and get really freaked out and start running and look like a total loony. When I finally get home I am gasping for breath and my mum asks me what's wrong. But I don't tell her, I'm worried she will think I'm mad or something or being an idiot. This is the first time I've talked to anybody about it. I'm worried about it and I hope you can help. Is it just me? Is it normal? What should I do about it?
Thank you for reading,xx

It sounds like an anxiety disorder or some other kind of disorder causing paranoia. If it's really disrupting your life, then you should by all means tell your parents so they can make a doctors appointment for you. Medication may need to be prescribed if your problem is severe. Otherwise, try some meditation and breathing exercises to get yourself in a calm relaxed state before venturing out.
it is ok it happens to me ALWAYS every day even at my house but only in my mums room i always have that feeling and i begin to run as fast as i can then look behind to find nothing but when i am with any one i know i do not have that felling at all and some times in MY room i just keep on looking back i hae the felling that some one is in the side of the room that i am not looking at.
that happens to me only in the bathroom though
