redcomb, you sound like a well-intentioned person. You also sound like an extremely ignorant person. Do you have epilepsy? Probably not. Have you read the Kama Sutra and some Buddhist writings? You probably have.

But 'depersonalization' is a very real phenomenon, and it doesn't just manifest itself to people who have Buddhist/Eastern metaphysical leanings. You sound like an idealist who is working himself up into a frenzy at the very idea of your own largely self-centered concept of the universe.

This is a person with a REAL concern, and I used to be just like him/her. You have NO RIGHT to impose your ideological perspective on someone who has a possible neurological disorder like epilepsy. It is rude and arrogant of you. I've also heard everything you've just said a thousand times, as well as read it myself, so you're not the 'lone guru' you imagine yourself to be.

Anonymous author - if your 'spaceouts' are disturbing or interfere with your activities on a frequent basis, definitely consult a neurologist or have EEG work done; the sooner the better. Epilepsy is a VERY complex disorder with extremely diverse symptoms that affects people in a number of ways, so you'll definitely want to rule it out ASAP. Then you can study it from a possible psychological standpoint. It may be a small panic attack that you're experiencing.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try to increase your depersonalization or embrace it as 'enlightenment.' That is an entirely different subject than what you're concerned about.
