Evolution and Homosexuality
Im not a homophobe and dont really care that much about people being gay, but its getting me p*ssed off that gays are using evolution as a justification for being gay, and state that your gay from birth. Evolution cannot justify you being gay, because if there was a 'gay gene' it would work as an evolutionary time bomb that would end the. Now I expect someone to come and say, being gay is evolutions way of preventing overpopulation. Evolution dosent work that way, it works through natural selection of genes being pased down from individuals. A gay gene cannot be propogated so it does not exist. From this we can infer that being gay is not a genetic or a hereditary characteristic, but a product of environment. The question is waht causes someone to be gay? I dont think it has much to do with overbearing mothers, but I do thnk it does has something to do with treatment in childhood. At the end of the day, someone who is gay and not bisexual, is gay because of events in their life including their own choices. I dont have a probllem with this, but I think its time people accepted it instead of constantly using pseudoscience to try and justify being 'natuarally gay'.

If someone is attracted to their own gender, rather than the opposite, it doesn't mean they're wrong, evil, stupid, or deluded. They just bloody do.
I have heard of boys as young as 9 telling people they think something is wrong with them because they like boys. Some men were sexually molested as a child and as a result they "choose" to be gay. I do believe in God, but even I don't know what to believe when it comes to homosexuality. I was taught in church it was wrong, but obviously gay people are different, and there has to be some kind of scientific explanation for it, unless it really is just people choosing to be sexual deviants.
How your brought up can also have a large impact on it, just your brain says the chances are that you will be attracted to guys/girls, but a straight guy can become gay and vice-Versa.
For those of you that read up to me saying a girls brain is smaller then decided to skip the rest and reply, pay attention to this. Girls are not stupider than guys they are every bit as intelligent as us, that part of the brain doesn't make you smarter or dumber it just controls your sexuality.
for example, many inherited traits, such as hemophilia, might more or less guaranty that the person suffering this condition will not live long enough to have children. but these traits are passed along because most people that have the gene for it, do not actually have the disease or condition.
Being gay may also have something to do with how you were brought up too, it could be both ways work. How your brought up and your brain.

And the only things you can rationally "blame" a person for are their choices.
Their libido is totally centered on objects or things that are not directly associated with what most people think of as sex.
The way it usually happens is a young boy (say younger than 10) for some reason associates sexual feelings with something (let's say like shoes, but it could be other things, even disgusting things like piss, farts, snot, anything). The young boy gets a little mini woody whenever he sees his mother's shoes(or whatever).
When the kid gets older, his sexuality doesn't develop normally because he already has a strong sexuality (revolving around his fetish). He continues to be primarily stimulated by his fetish all throughout his life. It is more exciting to him than anything else, including actual sex with a woman.
In order to have sex with a woman and enjoy it, he has to somehow "incorporate" his fetish in with the experience. He may insist that the woman wear a certain type of shoe during sex, for example. This way, although he is fucking the woman, in his mind he pretends he is actually fucking the shoe. If his fetish is shit, he would imagine the woman is shitting while he is fucking her.
I know it sounds weird, but it does exist.
Maybe you can consider homosexuality as a "genetic disorder." It's not supposed to happen but it does, and when it does people are happy with it, they are normal, they function just fine, and they wouldn't change a thing about them.

I know straight guys that only go to gay clubs cos they are into the dancing and like being around men because there is no pressure.
I know men that live with men like they are married but don't consider themselves gay as they don't have anything to do with the gay community.

Take strawberry Icecream for example. God knows why anyone would would want to eat strawberry icecream. Although it's not against the law and it's sold freely. Personaly I find it very disturbing. If someone wanted to eat strawberry icecream? who am I to say they can't.
I could join one of those anti strawberry icecream groups or hurl abuse at anyone I suspect of eating strawberry icecream. I could go bash people who eat strawberry icecream. I could ridicule them and try to stop them from eating strawberry icecream.
If enough people began to hate people who ate strawberry icecream. I bet soon enough strawberry icecream eaters would start to be ashamed of their love of strawberry icecream and they would start to feel guilty. Their friends would dump them and they would start to feel lonely and miserable.
Soon some may even give up strawberry icecream. But once a strawberry icecream eater always a strawberry icecream eater. DISGUSTING!!!!
Then some may even commit suicide because they just couldn't live in a world that hated them so much. It's the hate that courses suicide not the deed.

The fact is some animals are gay and wether any of you want to believe it or not Humans are just another animal on this big blue pile of dirt. Sience is constantly being proven wrong, case in point no one has fallen of the edge of the earth yet! However sience thinks it knows, and the srink thinks he knows. Oh Mom poked me with a diaper pin when I was six months old so now I don't like girls. Hell who knows?
As for the question of how much it would cost to get a straight man to engage in a little gay sex. The answer is not very much! However many would prefer not to addmit that in a public group. The fact of the matter is if a straight man feels he will not be caught he will try most anything. Some do have back door limits. On the other hand I doubt very much that it would take a hundred grand to breach the security shall we say. Which brings me to the guys who say I only did it because I was drunk. Yeah Right! Fact of the matter is very and I mean very few straight men will turn down a free B.J.! With that said I need to add that is, if he feels he will never be caught. Most of the straight guys I have been with and there have been a few. Feel like some sort of Macho Stud as if it is a huge boost to there man hood that another guy is wanting to service him.

I think if you are born gay maybe its a mix up of genes or something because there are chemicals everywhere these days
Anyway, one's attraction sexuality whatever just happens. Thinking about it, it can't really be nurture/based on teaching and influence, because attraction is something you feel inside... Okay this is hard to explain.
Now, there have been studies which points to a larger proportion of homosexuality on the mother's sides of gay men. The idea of a gay gene is pretty silly since most traits are polygenic, meaning that they are determined by many genes, not just one single gene. Not only that but a large percentage (like 98%!) of our genes don't even code for our traits, and some pieces of DNA are actually just junk (pieces of DNA that, as far as we can tell, don't do anything). So, to put it shortly, genetics is very complicated, thus making it hard to find any type of genes and what they code for.
But! They have done tests on Drosophila Melanogaster (The common fruit fly [no pun intended :p) And they've actually been able to switch a gene that makes them act homosexually. They've even made it where the flies act heterosexually at a given temperature, and then behave homosexually at another (So they're pretty sure that's what influences behavior... for fruit flies anyway) Of course, humans are not fruit flies! But I'm just saying there is a genetic bases in other animals, and so it is VERY possible that human homosexuals can be influenced by genes.
Now, as for the passing of the homosexual genes, how can that be achieved? This is very perplexing to scientists and some even call it "The Darwinian Paradox." Well, one study done in Padua, Italy theorizes that the genes that code for homosexuality in men, may actually increase fertility in women! That means, sure an individual is gay and he probably won't have biological kids (still a possibility) but it doesn't really matter because the mother is more fertile - she produces more offspring who carry the genes (whether active or inactive). And you might think: "That doesn't sound likely.." Well, it's been known that there is a connection between having a trait for sickle cell anemia (but not the condition) can make you less susceptible to getting malaria! The
sickle hemoglobin impairs malaria growth and development.
As for the neurohormonal theory of homosexuality: The theory was constructed because there is a statistical trend relating the number of brothers a man has and homosexuality. It turns out that the more older brothers you have, the more likely you are to being homosexual. The neurohormonal theory says that there is a male substance that the mother's body detects as an antigen, and as she is reintroduced to this substance, her body gets better and better at "fighting" it. It's kind of like when humans are first introduced to a species of bacteria or a new virus strain. They are unprepared for it and don't know how to fight it, but once they get through it once, they get better at fighting the bacteria or virus and detecting it as a threat. This would coincide with the statistical observation as the mother is exposed to more male fetuses inside her body, she is better able to "fight" the masculinizing (sexual differentiating) substance. But even beyond that... Genes are the ones that code for sexual differentiation in the first place. So if there were gay genes, they could potentially code for the presence or absence or differing concentrations of such a masculinizing compound.
There is a lot of theories and ideas on the subject, and not everything is so straightforward! Nature is very creative and common sense may not be what is best to describe the universe. If you want proof, e.g sources, just GOOGLE!! Search for "Padua, Italy homosexuality" and it'll pop right up or for any of the other studies that I've written about. There is a tremendous complexity in the subject,not just the genetics, hormones, and sexual differentiation but even knowing if one is gay or bisexual or heterosexual or even asexual.
Like I said "I'm homosexual" - and personally - I've always felt more attracted to guys than to girls. Saying that it's a lifestyle choice is ignorant because I didn't choose to be attracted to either sex, it just happened. (Assuming you're a heterosexual) You never chose to like the opposite sex, you like them because it is in your genetic program. Whether or not you can change it is debatable (although attempts at doing so have usually traumatized the individuals who try to change it). It's like trying to change a primitive urge like living. You didn't choose to be born, the zygote simply split and differentiated into all the cells of your body and then you eventually reached consciousness. Of course, you now have the decision to end your life or continue it. I'm just saying that genetics is an important, inseparable part of our lives and we are directly influenced by it. I do not know to what extent it influences us or everything about genetics and life, but as I gain more and more knowledge, I can make more and more decisions with what I truly believe and even alter my beliefs.
Don't lie and say that the information is not there! Did you remotely try to look? It's public/ published information. Everyone can read it. You just have to really read about all the stuff to come up with an opinion, otherwise, your lack of knowledge robs you of your freewill.
So - to finally answer your question: Yes, you are normal to believe that homosexuality cannot coexist with the theory of evolution. This is because most people are ignorant (no offense [I'm ignorant too!]). They don't know what a gene, chromosome or a phenotype is, much less how hormones, the brain, and how our physiology is determined by these genes. There is so much we don't know and thus we are more pronable to creating invalid beliefs. What is an invalid belief? A belief that is a LIE. A belief that does not reflect the true nature of reality. (e.g. If I eat only rocks, I'll survive for many years.) Some invalid beliefs are more innocuous than others, unfortunately.
Besides, even if homosexuality WAS a choice or environmental thing, WHY would it matter? It's no more significant than the fact that I chose and was conditioned by my family's veganism to have miso soup for breakfast today!

I believe that, what happened in a person's childhood does effect what his/her orientation may be. Such as if a male were raised by females, there is a chance he would be gay. If a female, raised by males, she could be lesbian. As for bisexuals? I don't know.

I think that homosexuality is caused by a mix of hormones or something like that, or a mix up in the part of the brain that causes attraction. But it is definatly not evolution

In the past, and still frequently today, gay people have been pressured into heterosexual relationships by the culture around them. Most of these involve sex, and very often children.
Nowadays gay couples who don't need to hide in heterosexual relationships can have children via artificial insemination or surrogacy.
This is not in anyway meant to imply that children of homosexuals will turn out to be homosexuals (again, I am living proof of this :P) As we all know, heterosexuals don't always produce heterosexuals.
Also (this is turning out to be a lengthy comment,) I believe in theory the genetic nature sexual orientation is more complex than say, the genetic nature of eye color.
I think the science behind sexual orientation is very interesting, and one doesn't need to bring politics or prejudice into the conversation.
Pregnant women are also checked if their baby has down syndrome and the Dr. will counsel them about it they want to terminate the pregnancy.
I wonder if the same will happen if we can get the DNA markers for homoism?
