Eye Contact in Classroom
55% Normal
10 Comments

This only happens with adults. Mostly teachers. My eye contact is fine when I'm talking one-on-one and up close, but when I'm sitting in class and the teacher is talking to everyone, I start noticing...my eye contact with the teacher, I guess. I'm fine when a student is talking to the whole class, or when a coach is talking to a group or my band conductor.

But when we're sitting in rows, and a teacher is talking to everyone, I just feel awkward. I'm not sure why. This is a recent feeling, like it's been like this for maybe almost a year. Sometimes, for some really weird reason, my neck twists a little when the teacher is looking directly at me, and I will quickly look away. It's not a big dramatic move, but I definetly know I am feeling anxious, though I'm not sure why.

I'm perfectly fine when I'm speaking to an adult or teacher one-on-one. But whenever a teacher is speaking to a group, I just feel uneasy, and don't feel comfortable staring at them, especially when they look directly at me.

I know this is weird. Anyone relate? What can I do? What maybe caused this?
Do you think it's normal?

Perhaps you feel the teacher is signaling you out as if he/she were going to ask you a question about the lesson to see if you are really paying attention.
I made eye contact...once.
Don't worry;
|-|3ll, I cannot look directly @ classmates, but can speak to people who are not self-obsessed...
WOW I know exactly how you feel! I hate it because when I'm looking at them I'm afraid they think I'm staring at them and when I look away I'm afraid they notice I do that so then they REALLY think I was staring at them funny...you aren't alone. :)
1.) Make eye contact
2.) be excused from the lesson
3.) meet up in a secret place eg. toilet/broom closet
4.) make out
5.) fuccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
i always feel uneasy at first when making eye contact with anyone, it sorta makes my stomach to a "flip" so to say, and truth is that its easier to make contact and keep contact with ppl that are easy on the eyes
I personally can't stand it when someone breaks eye contact with me and gets all jittery. Looking away and everywhere else when I'm talking to you is rude, in my opinion.

You probably have an intimidation complex. You feel afraid to look at people with some authority. It's not a cause that makes you like this, you just haven't developed the ability to look eye to eye with someone you consider superior to yourself.

Don't be afraid to look anyone in the eye. It shows command and self-control, and nothing is sexier. It gives YOU the ability to intimidate.
whoaw. i totally have that same issue. idk why but it just makes me feel so uneasy...
I have this as well. I've changed it a bit since last year though. Also it did turn up like in the last 3 years. I'm just nervous. Partly due to what was happening to me last year; just a stressful place I was living in. My blood pressure soared and my nose, eye, whatever twitched. My head would slightly vibrate as well. My mouth shook when I talked to others. When I tried to fix it I would stare at the person and scare the hell out of them haha. But I've calmed myself down, blood pressure down. Just train youself not do jerk and twitch. Never had this problem until I was like 16.
kind of weird, i guess its common for many pupils to feel this way sometimes. i sometimes feel like that but only on a few occasions.
