Mid teens is say age 16. That is two years away from what would be considered a young adult. I do not believe spanking should be used to affect undesirable behaviors/actions, rather other alternatives should be used such as denying privileges.

Spanking may be an effective means of discipline but it can also leave scars as it is regarded by some as humiliation.
