Is this stil and adult site? If so, how come one of the first post my curser ran over showed "I am 13 and my b/f......"????? THAT is something you do need to get to grips with. Either it IS an adult site and these posts should be deleted along with the posters or it isn't and we all know where we stand! The fact is, with underaged CHILDREN on board, we all have to be more careful of our responses. It is hardly fair to the adults to find themselves in threat of prosecution for answering what they thought was a post on an adult site because the owner allows juveniles to use it!!!

Anyhoo here's my 2 cents - I think the fact Udi didn't advised us was due to attacting the trolls back - I think only the members who was willing to contribute something to this site would continue to check if the forum was up and running.

Udi is owner and creator of this website. When you send feedback to the server you are writing to Udi and if you are very lucky and I mean LUCKY you might get a response to your questions.
What you may have seen was an old post by a young person. My staff and I are going through all the old posts and moderating them as well but it is going to take some time as there are 20,000 items to read and moderate.

We think that if we clean it up and keep all the submissions on topic, then the site has the potential to be much more interesting, popular and helpful.
What do you all think would be the best way to keep the amount of off topic chatter at a minimum? Perhaps an ancillary forum for off topic conversations?
I think the site has always been "interesting,popular and helpful". I think if you change it and not allow us to discuss issues on the board it will become a lot less popular. The one thing that makes this site stand out is the freedom allotted to us.
Why do I always have 1 abusive flag. Ive said it before the flag system is an uneccesary load of shit it should be removed and the chatroom put back thankyou
Most forums do this and I don't see a reason why IIN shouldn't.

But those 1000 votes are not representative of the entire IIN population. The hard part is putting that idea to work which takes a lot of computer programming and website designing. I'm sure Udi could do it himself but it may take some time. Maybe somebody with computer programming and/or website design experience can help him out? If a user based voting system works, then it would make IIN a better place and everybody happier as a result. Unfortunately, I have no experience in this area but maybe other people do?

If he can "censor" words when safemode is on, I think he can somehow count eachtime a person swears and either ban them or restrict them from the site for a set period of time.
Yeah I emailed him on countless occasions but received no reply. I am quite suprised that I got to see him actually reply to something in the forum TWO DAYS IN A ROW.
I'm myself isn't that optimistic about the future of this site.
To answer the earlier question of, "are you going to delete us if we keep arguing and insulting each other?". YES. I will be forced to. Please keep it strictly on topic until we can develop another outlet for that stuff like the other forum idea.
User moderation could work, but it's quite tricky to get all the incentives and safeguards right so that no one abuses the system. We may go down that road but not in the very near future.
What if you all had the ability to send private messages to one another? Would that help?
Also, please keep in mind that any such changes will take a little while to implement, so I appreciate your patience while we all figure out the right course of action. You went a few months without this site, so hopefully you can give it a few more weeks to get settled.

Having the ability to send private messages to one another would be helpful. What about having our own "isitnormal" email address? If we each had an "isitnormal" email address (with the option to forward copies of messages to our private email address), then we could send and receive private messages.
Having a forum for off-topic conversations will allow people to express their thoughts and feelings about IIN, its members, and the rest of the world. I think a major part of why people like IIN so much is that it allows them to express themselves in a safe and confidential manner. We all have usernames but we can keep our real identities to ourselves. This privacy allows people to talk about things that would be difficult, uncomfortable, or inappropriate to talk about in their real lives. So IIN is not just about helping others. It's also about expressing ourselves in a safe environment. There's an obvious need to do this so that's why I think having an off topic forum is a great idea. Could you make the off topic forum unmonitored, and make it viewable only if the "safe(r) mode" is turned off? The off topic forum would be like providing people with a designated smoking area. Since people are going to smoke regardless of what you tell them (lung cancer and other bad stuff), the smoking area will provide a designated place to do so without disturbing others who choose not to smoke or inhale second-hand smoke because their safe(r) mode filters will be turned on. I hope this analogy makes sense.
In additon, having another forum to talk about IIN itself would be helpful. This will allow both staff and members the opportunity to talk about IIN (compliments, complaints, suggestions, official announcements, etc) and answer any questions that they may have.
Would it be possible to receive official announcements, periodic updates, surveys, and other things by email (optional)? For example if the website needs to shut down temporary for system maintenance, then sending us an email about it will give us a heads up on what to expect. Otherwise, people will probably send you countless messages asking about the status of the website.

The forum is meant to be a complement to this site, not a replacement. It's a place where you can talk about whatever you want, IIN related or not, and just hang out.
When it switches from the three asterisks back to "junk", even the text that I entered in the comment box switches from the three asterisks back to "junk". So maybe you were looking at my comment after it switched back to the normal view. Just wait a little bit and it may switch again.
Your profile page is still there at http://isitnormal.com/people/lotsofjunk/ whether or not the link to your profile page works. It looks like the IIN computer thinks that "junk" is a forbidden work like the F word. If you type in the F work then asterisks will appear.
If the problem continues, then just let Udi know in the Feedback section at http://isitnormal.com/feedback.php. He can probably fix it for you.

Moderated is okay I guess, everybody here, INCLUDING Moi, fucked about a little, and moderation helps. The thing is, why moderate the posts (the original ones) when racist sacks of crap like Homer are allowed to post their vileness in every REPLY they make - on the topic or not.
I am going to try the forum, it seems a shame to let any of my wisdom go to waste, but I just like being back.
