im 19 and have somewhat of a hairy butt. should i shave it or is that normal?

About 75%% of Caucasian or Hispanic men have some form of chest hair by their early to mid-20s. Some never do.

"Beauty trends" dictate men's (and often women's) attitudes toward chest hair. During the 1970s, for instance, a hairy chest was a sign of virility and sexuality, and most "leading men" in Hollywood had hairy chests and show-cased them ad nauseum. By the 1990s, chest hair had fallen out of fashion, and men began secretly shaving and/or waxing. Like most trends, this began in the Gay Male community, and then spread to the straight male world. After a decade and a half of smoothness (most of it artificial) chest hair is making a comeback. Numerous articles have been written in the pupular press regarding this trend, and more and more leading men are showing off their fur again.

My advice is to find what makes you sexy, and accentuate it. If that means going against the norm, so be it. There's always someone out there who'll find you attractive, especially if you believe you are.

they might actually have it waxed, which causes the hair to come back thinner. Either way, you are fine and normal. Don't worry about it.

What are your origins? I'm part polish and norwegian, also very hairy.

Try trimming it very closely with a beard trimmer without the guard. That way, you don't get ingrown hairs when it grows back.

I'm 23 I have no chest hair and I don't shave my chest at all. I do have hairy legs though.

Depends mostly on ethnicity.

It is entirely genetic. Even teenage boys can have hairy chests. Alot of women prefer it, much to my own detriment.

It's normal. My friend's 16-year-old brother has a hairy chest.

A lot of guys shave their chest. It doesn't grow as quickly as facial hair so their isn't stubble for a couple days. If you don't want it, maybe you can try Nair or something like that. I wouldn't wax it...oh my god.

I also have a hairy chest, that is why I shave my butt and walk backwards, so it looks like I have a hairy back instead.

Chest hair (like all body hair) is fundamentally different than that which grows on the head. It's essentially beard hair, and tend to be more corse and, of course, not as long.

Body hair is a product of two factors: androgen production, and your sensitivity to it. If a person has high androgen levels and moderate to high sensitivity, he/she tends to be hairier. The general patterns are around the nipples, between the pecs, over the pecs, and on the stomach. Women with high levels of androgens (or who are highly sensitive) will sometimes grow a moustache and will get hairs around their nipples from time to time.

Perhaps using the word idiot for men who shave their chest off is a bit strong, I would just say if nature endowed a man with a hairy chest, why should he want to shave it off, it just seems to me a bit odd. Are men being influenced by all that media thing about shaving, some of the adds featuring hairless men are men who are naturally smooth, rather that men who shave their body hair off.. Boys do not have body hair, men do, so why should a 14 year old take off his body hair? does he think it is fashionable, or does he want to stay looking like a little boy.

bayareaguy, the word idiot by Jennalea was a bit 'mean' as you say, but it was her opinion of what she thinks of men who have a hairy chest, then shave the lot off. Perhaps you have a natural smooth hairless chest, I am sure she was not referring to someone like that. I personally think a man who has a hairy chest then shaves it off is being a bit childish, why does he want to remain looking like a little 10 year old boy, there are many men who have a natural smooth hairless chest would love to be hairy and think that guys who do shave the hair off are 'idiots'

At least you don't have a hairy back. Keep in mind that most [young] hairy guys are aware of the fact, self-conscious about it, and tend to avoid taking their shirts off in public. It's normal in the sense that it's not weird, but it's not entirely average. You'll find some girls LIKE it, some think it's disgusting, and many don't care. Don't sweat it.

As for waxing/shaving - in my opinion it is better to apply these methods to armpits hair rather than chest hair. Men in many countries do this and don't have these awful sweaty bushes under their arms
