I dislike eating. I'm not skinny nor fat, average. I'm also middle-aged. I don't like the process of eating, and I don't like to watch someone else eat. My son is the same way, as my father is. One of his quotes: "If I didn't have to eat to survive, I wouldn't bother". It's a disgusting process.
This is not that normal but is more common than people think. It is a form of eating disorder that is closely linked to persons who don%%u2019t like most foods only eat set menu (as shown in Freaky Eaters in the UK).
As your dad has this attitude it has passed onto you when you grew up, and your influencing your son. Spend some time with your son cooking strange and flavoursome items to help break the chain. You never know maybe you will find something you will like and it will bring your appetite back.
I use to feel the same way and had since I was a young child. The process of mastication wrecked me, especially of it was crunchy or a sloppy food. Though I've never been a picky eater. When I was hungry all thought dissipates though, and witnessing others chew became a non-issue. I don't think this is normal. I have seen many counselors on the issue and mine stems from my grandmother making me leave when I ate as a child (on visits and then more so when she came to live with us in her last years). But, this is not about my issue. You probably need to go see a counselor. Over the last few years my inadequecy has all but vanished and only re-immerges rarely. I use to hate listening to myself chew but now can tolerate it much more freely. I definitly think without help it would have become worse. You and your son should attend a therapy session or two. Um... it's fuel. Your body lives on fuel BUT maybe you should try the art of fasting. I say this because fasting has been researched to help us live longer. You see, once you cut down on eating and when you eat, your metabolism slows down...meaning cell division slows down, rejuvenation processes slow down... i.e. you live longer :) It's science, I swear! I watched it on "Understanding the Human Body". I think that'll work well with your ridiculous phobia of masticating.
Well meal times at your household must be a real drag. And seems so for generations. I think chillpill offers good advice - this is a learned aversion affecting the quality of your life, and now, that of your son's. Get some help with it.
I also can't stand eating. Not because I don't like a good slice of pepperoni pizza, but because I'd rather be doing something more meaningful like working or playing the piano. It's a big stupid chore to have to go to the grocery store and buy food and then cook it and eat it. Think of all the things we could get done if we didn't have to spend so much time eating!
