I've been getting hit really hard by stuff and not bruising, in fact, i honestly can't remember the last time i bruised. Last summer, i was playing softball and stole second, a guy, who was only about 5 or 10 yards away, threw the ball as hard as he could to try and get me out. It hit me in the cheek bone, but didn't bruise, it just got a little red. By the next morning the redness was gone, but no bruise. You couldn't even tell that anything had happend, and thats only one of many hard hittings. I do not bruise. Is that normal???

ok i'm the same as all u guys except i do seem to remember minor bruises at a very young age (6 and younger i think) but they suddenly dissapeared. i used to be quite skinny but put on alot of weight and height in the past few years (not fat...now im normal sized lol). im gonna ask my doctor at my next physical and post results here. last thing to all of you who said you have 3%% body fat that is drastically incorrect the human body cannot survive for more than a few days on less than 5%% body fat and this is achieved exclusively by professional body builders.

I don't bruise either, I never have in 52yrs with many many stitches, head injuries, broken nose, surgeries, impacts hard enough to bend a car door frame & knock out a tooth and expose my skull but no bruises. I do swell huge, and don't even know it until people see it and gasp, but it goes away quick with no trace, not even tender. I've always ask why but no one had an answer. I'm slender, little body fat, high pain tolerance, very active, drink mostly soda no water, lab tests are normal. Most people think your full of it when you say you don't bruise until you smack your head on a ski lift pole that rings like a bell and it raises the size of egg and by the time you make it back down the hill, the swelling is gone and no marks. Why?

I'm 19 and the last time I remember bruising I was in 4th grade or something, minor though they were. I've been pretty accident prone, broken collar bone, 3 ribs, skull, ankles, toes, fingers, arm, hand, jaw twice both sides, teeth, not to mention a slew of stitches, and appendicitus. Most of the broken bones came from football, but because I didn't bruise or tell my coach, I kept playing, (yes even the skull, and yes, NOW I know that was stupid). I'm not worried about it really, but I would like to point out that my skin itself is also really tough (difficult to put a staple in my arm, don't ask). I just thought I would toss this in, even though this is a really old post. Honestly, I thought I was the only one.

I have never bruised either and everyone in my family bruises so easily. I feel I am blessed but at same time wonder if I have a blood clotting problem ha-ha! I've read and read to find out and say it means you have good antioxidants in your body which prevents you from bruising, and others say having fatty tissue helps but we all know that's a myth has I've seen many obese people bruise even easier than thin ones. I do not eat healthy yet my health is superb each time I go to doctor checkup and my levels of sugar and cholesterol are all perfect and I drink lots of chocolate. Some say having good nutrients helps your body recover fast but that does not at all explain not bruising if you get hit hard. But I will say this, I do drink lots of grape juice, love it... So maybe the antioxidant theory is the best explanation for now till I hear from a real doctor or scientist but I am definitely blessed and have a super body LOL!

I remember not being able to bruise at things that hit me hard such as two guys 10 years older than me beating me up,Riot at school and falling down a flight of stairs.

No bruises but a broken jaw,Cracked rib,Back pain,Confusion for two hours and a hell of a lot of bleeding.
So you could have much much more serious injuries!

I don't bruise either. I am 5'11" 140lbs and under 3%% body fat and i can not remember the last time i have been bruised. The other day i dropped about 80lbs of weight on my face and it only swelled a little no bruise. I let people hit me as hard as they can in my arm, leg, stomach to try and get a bruise but nothing. After reading previous stories i think bruising has something to do with fat in the body.

I've never had a visible bruise in my life. I have had many painful areas after an impact, but I never get discoloration of my skin. I weigh 160 lbs and am 5'11'', as well as (bruno14) and am 3.95%% body fat as of last month. I am Caucasian so if colored bruising had occurred, you could see it. I play football and wrestle for my school on varsity, and I have never once gotten a visible bruise.

Just out of curiosity, how was your bodyfat measured?

internal bleeding, maybe? it looks fine on the outside but it's really bad in the inside.

I am soon to be 54 years old and I never bruise. I have asked docs and they just smile and never say anything.
I had a wreck busted the windshield, broke the plastic on the steering column with my knee, hit the steering wheel with my chin and chest...Not one bruise!

METHOSjr.
Fat seems to absorb the impact of even the mightiest of blows. You are lucky for the extra padding.

Remember, a healthy diet also consists of excercise. I love big sweaty girls!!

Me too! Of course that is how I found this thread. I have gone over my handlebars twice in the past week. It's been a hard week. I have lots of scrapes, but no bruises to speak of. In a few places I have tiny purple dots. I landed on my hip, so I can't sleep on it, but no bruise.

Oh, and by the way, I am also very thin. I think maybe the broken blood vessels normally leak into the fat tissue, which we are missing.

I have punched myself pretty hard same spot for fifteen min dont ask why but it no bruise just a red mark that quickly went away im really skinny too. I think that curiousbruke may be right

hey out of all of us with the same problem in the spots you were hit does it still hurt like a bruise?
Comment Hidden (show)
I have always been thin, so like many of you fat tissue is not the answer. When I was young I would bruise, so I know what a bruise feels like. Now that I am an adult I never bruise. It hurts the same way a bruise hurts, but the skin looks normal. It's very strange.

I also never bruise but I don't think it's a fat issue. A few days ago I got kicked really hard in the shin playing soccer that I had a giant lump with a dent at the point of impact (through shin guards mind you). The past few days it's so sensitive to the touch that I cannot wear long pants or have the blanket over it at night but yet to look at it there's NO discoloration at all. I'm pretty sure there's no fatty tissue on my shin, that's pretty much straight up skin and bone there, so I cannot explain this. I've also been hit directly in the eye socket with a lacrosse shot on goal (back before girls wore eye protection in lacrosse) and nothing, no black eye or anything. Again not really a fatty area to use that as an excuse. I've been wondering about this for a while cuz my mom bruises from everything including the back of her legs from hitting the edge of her bed getting out in the mornings....wtf?

I'm 32, 6 foot 2, medium to large frame and build, a bit out of shape and a little overweight but healthy, and I've also recently noticed that I don't bruise either. I used to get bruises, but now I don't remember the last bruise I had. I definitely got bruised as a kid, I even had a bone bruise once. That was a bruise so deep it went down to the bone, or something like that. Now I can't bruise if I try, and like several of you I have tried. I punched myself in the leg, I hit myself on the arm as hard as I could with a steel chopstick, and I've shot myself in two different spots on my arm point-blank with an electric air-soft BB (plastic bb's, and they are NOT soft) gun and each of these tests there has been no bruise.
As is reportedly the same as most of you it hurts like hell, gets red and raised, then seems to go away (at least the mark, though I find the pain also fades quickly).
I'm not fat, but I'm not all thin and muscle either. My gut proves that. there's also the point that my fiance is thin and fit, but she bruises at the tiniest injury. To test the body fat theory, I've shot myself (again with the air-soft BB gun) in the gut where I have the most body fat. So far the same raised red spot, and it did sting like hell, but I doubt it will bruise. The previous mentioned shots in the arm, one was on my forearm and the other on my bicep. The two spots was to test different types of muscle to the same controlled injury, and both had no bruising.
There are some other similarities several of us do seem to share, however. We seem to be in good or above normal health, even in cases where we shouldn't be. There seems to be a lot of us with high thresholds for pain as well. We were all also apparently puzzled and interested in this as well, that's why we were all brought to this thread.
Here's some additional odd things about me that may or may not have anything to do with this not bruising thing. I heal very quickly, I have a high metabolism, I seem to be stronger than I should be, and I have quick reflexes. I also have excellent eyesight, and always have. The only thing is that I have a problem with bright light, and see better in low light conditions. I actually have to wear sunglasses while out during the day or I can't see. If any of these ring a bell to other non-bruisers, please share and let's see if there might be an answer from it.

I share all the same signs exept that i am very very fit (i work out all the time). The sun also bothers me alot and makes me sneeze

I searched for this because I don't bruise anymore either. I do drink alot of iced tea which does have antioxidants. I also like chocolate. Maybe that is the key along with minimal body fat. There isn't much out there on lack of bruising. More than anything I'm curious about it.

strong blood vessels, not hard, but strong vessels. iron has not much to do in it...
