I don't like dogs, at all. Mostly what bothers me though is the smell. I think some people are more sensitive to the scent, and it's just a really nasty smell. It's just like 'wet dog' except really strong like that ALL the time for me.
People get used to the grossness of their dogs, and then they don't bathe them often and let them get away with going potty indoors without thinking much of it.
My friend is crazy about his dog. It pees all over his house, and in his bed, and he's in total denial over it, so it doesn't really get cleaned up. He just can't smell it at all. It's a shame when I go over there wearing clean laundry after a shower, because as soon as I get home I have to wash the smell off of everything all over again. Even a week later my shirt that I wore for 2 hours will still reek. And it's not just a mental thing, I've smelled 'dog' in my room for weeks before discovering some clothing item buried deep under the bed was the source.
I'm a cat person, because I value higher IQ and independence in a pet. Dog owners value obedience and dependency. Which is fine, to each their own. I prefer a cat because it is self cleaning, and grooms itself pretty much constantly. It also naturally goes in a litter box, and as long as you maintain its box it will never go anywhere else in the house, that's just its instinct from kittenhood. It never requires training. A cat could care less if you want to give it attention, unless it's in the mood. And its smart enough to manipulate its environment to get what it wants without begging. It has its own mind.
I don't like how dogs:
-are desperately needy... always. -bark over nothing important -try to crawl all over you even when you push them away -stare when you eat -slobber all over everything -have that god awful stench -have no quarrels with peeing indoors if they can get away with it -have low intelligence -are entirely dependent on you, all the time
But I do like how they make my friends happy. And that's more important I guess.
