I really hate heavy metal music, it really irritates me and drives me mental.. like long haired men with their makeup on (like marrion manson) and tossing their heads forward screaming and shouting like retards, grrr i really hate it!!!
does anyone else feel the same?
Heavy Metal is stuff like; AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Van Halen.
I can;t understand why you don't like it.
I think it's great. :)
if you dont like and dont have the brain power to understand metal dont bitch about it and go back to sucking lil waynes dick !
... erm... i dont think you need to be told whether liking metal music is normal or not. Its music! everyone likes it... but not every type. You dont like metal music, but the freaks above this comment obviously do lol
lets all get over this fact... PLEASE!
Also Cassie100, you made me lol with one of the most ignorant statements about metal I have ever read.
Wrong! The guitars are heavily laden with electronic effects & boosted/amplified to high volumes. What's real about that - except real loud?!
And "your" is "you're."
Its OK to like heavy metal. But it is what it is.
Marilyn Manson isn't Metal. I love Metal though but my prefernce is symphonic metal. Like Lacuna Coil or Within Temptation. You should look them up sometime if you aren't into the "Screaming thrashing" kind of metal. I like some Heavy metal bands though and I see nothing wrong with liking it. Personally id rather sit through an entire Cannibal Corpse album than listen to P. diddy, but that's just me.
Firstly makeup is only worn by some sub genres of metal, for example goth rock/metal, black metal, glam, and emo to a certain extent. There are far more sub genres that don't wear any at all, so you're already on a road to ignorance.
Now claiming that it is pathetic, talentless, and requires no brain thought to appreciate is also something that couldn't be further from the truth. Listen to blotted science, origin, dream theatre, etc, to name a few. Do you fully understand what is being played in the music, the scales used, key changes, altering time signatures, etc. I recon I won't be far off in assuming that you don't. The truth is metal is generally the closest genre that relates to classical music out now, with the amount of thought and composition put into it, although you might not hear/understand/or agree with me. The fact is that it's true, and with a good knowledge of musical composition you'd know it too. Clearly a large portion of it cannot be compared to the genius of Mozart, but there is more thought spend on those riffs/melodies/chord progressions than practically anything in the pop/rap/electronic/etc market. Now on a personal matter I generally prefer to listen to very technical music, which is vastly produced by some genres of metal these days (mainly death metal and prog), and what to most people sounds like mush (or loud noise). I don't get the biggest kicks from listening to bands like ACDC (or in your example, Marilyn manson) as instrumentally what is being played is extremely simple. Also, just like Rihanna, P.Diddy, Britney spears, etc, musically, it is even more so basic. Yes I can appreciate that for many people simple is more and having catchy rhythms/riffs and good lyrical hook lines are all you need. But for me that rarely cuts it, and that's my opinion and I'm not imposing it on anyone.
Now with the comment about %u201Cgrown men trying to act tough and hard%u201D but singing like a lady, and wearing leather, being %u201Cextremely homosexual%u201D; apart from the fact that once again that's only found in a few sub genres, motley crue dressed extremely feminine, wore makeup, were assumed to be more masculine because of it, and have had more sexual partners than the vast majority of bands out there. So clearly something must have been working with that appearance.
You can say that metal fans listen to angry or rebellious music (because a large portion of it is), but in actual fact, the majority of fans are the most calm, down to earth people you'd meet. Obviously with every collection of people you get exceptions, but for a lot of these %u201Cangry people%u201D, the music is a form of release. The irony is the more extreme the metal music, the more refined, calm and respectable the musicians are. The reason why some may appear angry and hostile here is because of ignorant narrow minded comments. It won't be any different in someone like me starting a narrow minded comment here stating %u201Call rap is a retarded form of self promotion to appear better than everyone else, while treating women like whores and promoting gang confrontation with all their eastside/westside symbolism%u201D. I'm sure that a number of people would become up roared by a statement like that and appear hostile in their replies.
I come now to my favourite response:
- DisturbedAngel666
"...when your listening to heavy metal your actually listening to music played with real instruments and efforts put into it..."
- Ollieo
%u201CWrong! The guitars are heavily laden with electronic effects & boosted/amplified to high volumes. What's real about that - except real loud?!%u201D
So are you stating that all electrical musical instruments require no effort to play? That in order for it to become talent, the instrument must project its own form of acoustic sound with zero amplification. Someone playing something on a piano is better than if he played it on a keyboard? The fact that the second you jack up an electrical instrument you are automatically a wizard. No, the truth is the notes themselves are played physically, and depending on the technicality that's being played, deciphers the talent.
Vocally I can understand people not liking music such as death metal, or similar assorts. The reality is that it does require some talent in doing so, and if you don't believe me, try singing like for a one and a half hour set. You may not like it none-the-less, but with certain music it is far more fitting than having Mariah Carey singing over it instead.
Now I come to the ever repeating statement about men with long hair. Firstly that is a stereotypical comment that bares no relation to liking or disliking a genre of music. I myself am a man with long hair, and I can safely say that I get a lot of regular comments from women (who don't listen to anything even remotely near to what I do) complimenting it. Since when were men and women supposed to dress/look the same as the average person on the street? I'm not with the childish intellect of %u201Ctrying to be different%u201D or %u201Cshock/scare people%u201D, I simply like having long hair, always have, always will. Personally I don't find bald women sexually attractive, doesn't mean I'll start posting judgmental comments here about it, or that I'll look at them any different to any other human being. The fact is that coming here with a topic like this about disliking metal, and having to comment about people's appearances to back up your argument simply makes you a fascist.
%u201CMetal confronts what we'd rather ignore. It celebrates what we often deny. It indulges what we fear most and that's why metal will always be a culture of outsiders.%u201D
" Ever since I was 12 years old I had to defend my love for heavy metal against those who say it's a less valid form of music. My answer now is that you either feel it or you don't. If metal doesn't give that overwhelming surge of power that make the hair stand up at the back of your neck, you might never get it, and you know what? That's okay, because judging by the 40,000 metalheads around me we're doing just fine without you."
Metal is fucking great. If you don't like it that's fine because I hate rap, country, metalcore(emo metal), pop, hip hop, and even rock isn't on my ipod.
