My cousin (girl) met a guy playing video games online, and they ended up chatting on msn, and then talking on webcam, talking by phone, meeting in person a bunch, and they eventually ended up getting married, still to this day. It works for some people, but the important part is face-to-face communication and using your real voices. So try to limit it to webcam/skyping, or talking on a phone, and try to meet in person as soon as possible.

If you've known someone for 4 months then talking to them in real life shouldn't be any different than on the internet.

You'd be surprised how many successfull couples meet this way. If you find yourself attracted to this girl and if she feels the same way, then go for it. From my point of view, you have nothing to lose. Good luck. =o)

It's very common thing today. I met my boyfriend on chat, but we live in same town so it wasn't too hard to meet, and now after 5 years, i would regret if i didn't.
If she likes you too, just go for it, arrange a meeting! It's 100% normal. Or wait a little bit more untill you know each other relly well. It will be much more relaxed and easier than. And good luck :)

if she's anythhing like ME , I have 20+ guys online that think im their girlfriend :) sorry to burst your bubble but its very easy for girls who are pretty to get tons of bf's online, and play them for emotional thrills to help make life more intresting ~ its the same with most of my friends ... if a girls gonna cam with you then you better believe she's camming with alotta other guys and has been probably for years ... im only 16 still and have no trouble getting anything i want from online guys.

Common? Yes. Normal? No. You should stop building on a fantasy and just ask her out and meet in person. If she lives too far away, then stop torturing yourself, forget about it.

How do you meet people online, this has never happened to me.

In the old days we had MSN Chat and Yahoo chat and there were no weirdo's. If I had the money back then (I was just a high-school student) I would of flown over and met all those girls but now internet chat is full off poo left and right.
