Contrary to your words, dogs are far from run solely on instincts alone. They are very intelligent and while they do lack certain abstract reasoning abilities, they still learn, process, analyze and adapt to new problems and challenges.

That would not be the case if they were purely instinct driven. Even a basic understanding of animal psychology (or human psychology) disproves your theory of "instinct only" behavior.

Now, on the flip side, we're more highly instinct driven than many people realize. We have maternal instincts, the fight/flight instinct as well as many more that I won't clutter up this comment with.

As for "unlearning" the behavior, why? Contrary to what popular opinion would LIKE you to believe, dogs are mentally and physically MATURE and sexual beings.

So, is ANY harm coming to the dog?

Is the author unduly concerned with being considered a pervert? Yes.

Im going to be honest here and say that if it really makes your dog happy then keep doing it as long as your not hurting her. I personally believe you have something of a great relationship with your dog if she is letting you please her in that way.
