I feel like there are alot of people who are apathetic about the world. It seems like most people are much more concerned with themselves, their appearance, how much they have, how much they can get out of life. I feel like people don't care about helping other people or making a difference.
Because of this, I have devoted my time and energy into trying to make a difference. I am part of the Real Life Superhero Movement. At night, I put on a special costume and patrol the streets. I have fought crime and saved injured people. One time I got in a bloody fight with a crack dealer. One time I took down a corrupt security company. One time I just stayed with a woman who had been hit by a van until the ambulance came. I have a utility belt full of gadgets and gear and know how to scale buildings to hide in the shadows. I can do 50 pushups in under a minute. I talk with superheroes all over the world who are doing the same as me. I'm even on a superhero team. I've been doing this regularly for years and will do it for many more.
Am I right about the apathy of the world? Or am I normal?
You can beat up a dealer but if only things were as simple as they seem, as black and white as in the comic books. (I'm sure when he was 5 though he never said I want to grow up to sell crack and I'm sure he didn't drop out of Harvard disappointing his parents because he just had pursue that life style over being a lawyer. so what happened ? He got a wrong view of the world and himself from his environment and some how lost his way) Maybe it's too late for him but what about the little kids who will grow up to be the crack dealers of tomorrow ? Educate them and you could wipe out all the drug dealers in a decade.
You could become involved in the community or politics and get rid of poverty , ignorance , drug abuse and crime where it starts with lack of education. By education I don't just mean degrees to earn wealth I mean in general being educated about the world and having options.
Why not start a movement to clean up the community and address the roots of the problems rather then go out and play in the muck of the symptoms ? There are causes for poverty and crime (not that people should not take responsibility for their actions but there are real roots of these problems in society none the less. Look at the big picture. Why is there crime in one neighborhood and not another ? A sense of looking out for your neighbors in one community and not in another ? It's just that some people are rich by others being poor and poverty and ignorance breed crime and apathy.
I'm sure drug dealer isn't a great career but it's easy . It's just the only way some kid thought they could make any good money or it's what they grew up around. $600 a month at burger King and no health insurance ( or $4000 selling crack a nice car and a girl ect till they get shot. So people get this attitude that the world threw them in the trash or wants them to work harder than others for the basic things and so they do what they have to do (in their mind anyway)to get what they want and need and they know no other way. Then things get crappy for everyone around them too.
The politicians get focused on the money they can make and their careers but one that really cared and stood up to corruption and apathy to spite the temptation of money and the pressure to go along with the crowd would be a super hero too. It's those who inspire others to come together who make a difference. Most people are good they just need a little inspiration and sometimes they feel they can't make a difference or their efforts are misdirected.
There are much bigger ways to help the world. The reason you don't see superheros outside comic books is because in real life there are no superman type heroes flying invincible aliens from krypton and no super villains. Lex Luther would be arrested by the FBI and we have police and army to handle physical threats and petty crime. Groups like the guardian angles did walk the streets when the police were too corrupt to care or too apathetic to want to go to the ghetto (let them poor take care of themselves they said since they do it to themselves) but it was more their presence and they were out in the open policing and deterring crime which could not be done hiding in the shadows. They didn't have to beat people up most times just set an example by being there. They were needed because other heroes had not cleaned up the police and the community with political and educational effort and when they did things got better. Even honest Police can't be everywhere sure but neither could batman.
I would say no people do care about helping other people or making a difference they just don't often end up in the spot light but everything good in the world was created by someone with inspiration to make it a better place and there are many ways to do that and many people strive for it everyday. If this were not the case the world would be like mad max with everyone just beating and killing each other and humans would have one extinct long ago.
Also in the places where you find poverty and crime you also find apathy. BUt which comes first ? If it seems like people are not willing to help maybe it's because they are over whelmed by living in a place of crime and poverty which makes people hopeless desperate self centered and violent it's a vicious cycle.
show me, show you...
