Ever since I was about 10 years old, I have carried a pen wherever I go. If I don't, I feel like I've lost something and I have to grab one or else I freak out (I even induced a panic attack once).

Also, when I read books or online or even watch a movie with subtitles, I need a pen. I flip the pen in my hand so I follow the words and if I don't read this way I feel like I'm going to explode or something. I feel like I don't understand what I just read even though I did, unless I am holding a pen.
Do you think it's normal?

I think it's just a habit that you've formed during your life. It's not bad or anything, I mean I hate when I'm out and I don't have a pen with me. But not to the extent that you do.

But if this is a thing that is affecting your life in a bad way like the panic attack, maybe you should speak with a mental health professional. I'm not positive, but this behavior seems linked to OCD.
