I shave my face without using shaving cream

I've always shaved myself using shaving cream and a razor, but since the beginning of this year I've stopped doing so.
The way I shave off now is faster and I even get my face smoother because I can see where I need to pass the razor.
The only problem is that I get some nicks from times to times. I did get cut every so often using shaving cream but now it happens more frequently.
I haven't asked anyone I know because all the men in my family use shaving cream, indeed I am the only man I know that doesn't use it.
Am I the only one who does it? Is it bad for my skin to do this? Is it at all normal?
Do you think it's normal?

I don't really think it to be abnormal, but probably not best for your skin. You can actually buy non-foaming shave gels so that you are able to see what you're doing, and this will reduce nicks and razor burn. Here is one example: http://barberbrigade-shop.com/nonfoaming-shave-gel1.html
I dunno, my boyfriend doesn't use shaving cream and it drives me insane. But maybe you don't need it?

It's a mystery!
i dont use shaving cream, and i use a shaving blade. smoothest shaves ever. Period.

Thanks for the link.
shaving cream simply makes your hair stand up and to collect the hair, its not a necessecity
I find the blade really pulls onthe facial hair & is uncomfortable w/o gel or cream the nicks - but if it works 4 you fine.
three things:
1. I rince the blade under hot tap water then cool off the blade in a bowl of water with 4 ice cubes. Cold blade important to reduce irritation.
2. I apply moisturizer before and after. 10 times cheaper than shaving cream and lets you see what's shaved.
3. Disinfect the blade with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip everytime.

makes for an irritation-free shave
thats not werid thats just awesome u should try shaving with a hunting knife lol
I only use almond oil, the main ingredient in most shaving oils. You can get a whole bottle for about $7. It lasts forever and mosturizes your skin well. A small bit on your beard after a shower will give a better shave than cream will.
I'm pretty sure shaving cream is a waste of money, I've used with and without and can't see any noticiable difference.
