I laugh at people's stupid jokes. Most of the time it's to make them feel better, but people don't seem to appreciate that sometimes. It may be because i'm shy, is what my aunt told me, but I can't seem to control myself.
Is it normal to laugh at everything all the time?!
If you are laughing for any other reason than that you found the joke funny, people will pick up that you are faking. This would be interpreted as heavy sarcasm, and no, people don't appreciate it.
We laugh, in part, as a recognition of the other person's status. Laughing too much may actually make them upset with you because they may unconsciously perceive it as you patronizing them, which you admitted you were. When you laugh genuinely they feel that they earned it, and benefit from the feeling of status they get. You end up feeling good about the interaction too, because being genuine is the best way to go.
