I do have people I look back on that were generous and selfish of course.
I just dont think someone who was in so much pain that they felt they had no other choice other then ending their own life by their own hands is a selfish person.
I think they deserve to be judged a little less harshly then that.
I think it's ironic that you are judging mae for judging her friend, when in reality you have no idea of the ins and outs of the situation. Everyone has a choice.
So then what ins and outs of the situation would make a difference here? If the person is dead, they are dead.
And I find it ironic that mae and probably you by extension view an act like that as "selfish". I guess those people an obligation to you to stick around even though they found no joy or pleasure in life at all.

I'm simply saying that it is unkind of you to try and make her feel bad about it, when suicide is an extremely emotionally complex situation. I empathise with her, I posted this story, I have suffered the suicide of a close friend, and I can understand why some people might view it as a selfish thing to do. That's all.

That friend of yours had a complete and total obligation just to YOU and not to themselves to keep living their life just because YOU were in it. Sure its irony. Its ironic that you empathize with someone who thought another's suicide was selfish but don't see it being selfish yourself when that person calls that same suicidal person selfish. Apparently the person in question had an obligation to others that outweighed their obligation to themselves. Your argument is like me saying I empathize with bums not wanting to work but I don't agree with it.
It's more like, if you stabbed your mum, you might have reasons for why you did it which I empathise with (like she was an alcoholic or abusive), but despite my empathising with your position, I still wouldn't think you stabbing her was ok.
