It has happened to me about four or five times, that a girl was pretty obvious in her clues about the fact she wanted to be with me, and I just did NOT get their (pretty obvious) clues, until it was too late.
It makes me feel like a complete moron, and also kinda depressed, thinking about what COULD have (and should have) been. Sure, I'm not a genius, but I DO regard myself as a pretty intelligent person, so how the fuck is this possible?
I've once heard on the dr. Phil show that guys often not getting clues from girls is a common phenomenon, but I'm not sure. What do you think?

But here's why I bring this up, as it relates to the original post.
If you found out that she was giving you hints too late and you don't really like her, then it shouldn't matter much, right?
If she's giving you hints and you DO like her, then it shouldn't even matter if you're getting hints or not, or you notice them, or whatever. You should be just going for it anyway.
