Like, you see some British guy who is actually from the Caribbean and who is really African, if you take it back far enough. Why shouldn't he be representing his home country? Should Britain claim him? Is Britain right to take that success as their own?

I see your point. But here comes the problem:

What about sportsmen/-women who have about 10 different races and nationalities mixed in them? Should they be disqualified?

Well why don't we take it back and let everyone represent Southern Africa aka the origins of man?

Whoever you currently identify with, that's who you play for.

I would love to see an all Native American team USA.

It would just be far too complicated. Besides, we don't want the Olympics to turn into "Battle of the Races" or something.

Like me, I am Lithuanian. Doesn't mean I live in Lithuania, speak Lithuanian, or have even seen Lithuania! I affiliate myself with the USA because that's where I've grown up and it's where I call home.

If you're born in a country, I think you should be able to represent it, even if your parents weren't born there.
Who are you to choose where you'd want to be born?

By your logic all Olympians should play for Africa, as humans originated and eventually migrated from the continent.

I believe they can play for whoever they want as long as they are a citizen of that country/countries. For what I believe is the first time, this year they have Independent Olympians.

This makes me think of the Elgin Marbles... Do they belong in the British museum are or back in the Parthenon? Is that what you're getting at? I think the Greeks have an ancestral right to them, myself. It really is a complicated issue, though.

hmmm... someone doesn't like the Out-of-Africa theory.... racist.

This is completely normal! I feel the same way BUT i think all athletes have a choice to represent any country they want as long as they're a citizen there
