I have twenty cats (as well as various other animals). I've accumulated them over fifteen years. I didn't even care for cats growing up... then my husband insisted on getting a cat and I found something very spiritual about them. We live in a thousand-square-foot apartment with them. Over time, I've nursed and kept sibling kittens and had the high/low point of foster-parenting a momma cat and her six kittens. We got attached to them, and then made up fake people to the humane society that supposedly was adopting them from us when in reality we kept the whole lot of them... all seven of them. We aren't some of those nasty hoarders who never clean their boxes or feed them. We spent over $1000 on one of our cats back at Christmas (and gave up our presents) for one of our cats with liver failure (she survived). Actually, they get better care than we do.
Do you think it's normal?

Wow. I bet you feel abnormal? How is the Food bill? And what exactly are you asking? Because "Pet Hoarding" can be cruel to animals. Do they live in a clean place with food & water? If not you need to get some help yourself.

but you are not being fair to yourself. I understand because I at one time had 13 cats. I loved them and took good care of them, but I didn't take good enough care of myself. I would reccomend that you adopt out a few of your cats
No, they're fine. They have food and water stations in each room of the house (including the bathroom... the second bathroom is sacrificed for the humans so that it can hold five of their litter boxes and their litter). The place is messy but clean as in we don't have feces and urine on the ground or anything nasty. The buddies all seem happy. We've decided that twenty is the magic number, though, and nothing but an extremely awful case would cause us to cross that number. I accumulated most of these guys from my work (I used to work in the veterinary field) and volunteering with the humane society (I don't do that any more... I realized I had my own shelter right here at home that needed me). Everybody just thinks we're nuts, though, so I wondered if we were deluding ourselves or something.

Jesus christ, what must your place smell like?

And just think what you are doing to the local wildlife population! I'd be seriously pissed off if I lived anywhere near you. There must be catshit everywhere, and no birds around at all.
I have 2 and that stinks the house to high Hell!! Do you dispose of the Shiit in a garbage or fling it out the window?
that doesn't sound TOO abnormal. i used to have like 20-25 cats but they were outside. if you like them and treat them well, and if they make you happy, then good for you! i wish i had more cats!

I have a trap in my garden to catch other people's cats who come in and shit all over the place. When we catch one, we put the hose on it for half an hour, and then release it and let the dogs go. They can run pretty fast when they want to!

They don't come back very often.
The dirty neighbor kids kept digging through my trash, so I just put the loose cat-droppings on top to suprise them. They don't come back very often also^.
I would suggest that you ask a friend who you trust to be honest with you to check out the situation and tell you if s/he thinks you're taking it too far, either for yourself or for the cats.

And though you probably already know this, I'll remind you -- SPAY AND NEUTER... there's no need to bring more kittens into the world when so many are already homeless.
You are in league with satan
you are a giant duche who thinks just because he does not understand an animal it is suddenly evil. you duche
The humane society thing sounds like fraud.
@: hmmm
alright. They are evil, and it looks as though they have you fooled.

I have one Tortoiseshell indoor cat. My two neighbours cats, 'the boys' come to me for treats, catnip and water. Several others come for water but 'the boys' nextdoor are good buddies. They keep me company when I'm gardening or having a coffee on the deck.
