There's a Canadian National branch that runs close by my house and every so often, when traffic does run along it (which is extremely scarce since the material this branch was intended for, coal, is no longer quite as necessary in today's world), I run down to the tracks, in a specific spot right where a grade crossing is, and I dodge the oncoming train when it is within 4 ft. of me (typically they run at 30 mph max speed).
I don't know why I do it; it's not for the thrill, but rather my desire to get a "good look" at the locomotives (motive power is typically an SD40-2). So I don't know; am I just insane in the membrane?

i can feeel the buzz of seeing this rare train but have you ever thought about just getting ahead of the train and watching it come towards you as you stand beside the tracks rather than on them?
As for your train problem, please stop. You know what's going to happen sooner or later.
