My senior prom was over 30 years ago, but I didn't go and I never regretted it. Not only was there the cost, which you've mentioned, but I also was not a particularly good dancer. I was never one for the typical teenage rituals anyway (proms, football games, etc.), and if I had it all to do over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

Is it your girlfriend who is "forcing" you to go, and if so, have you shared your feelings with her? If it's that important to her, maybe you can work out a compromise (i.e., prom only with no post-prom party, or the reverse). Or perhaps you can plan your own party with her and a few friends on that night, if your parents would accept such an idea.

I would like to see you be able to skip the occasion if that is your wish, but if you really can't get out of it, try to remember that it's just one night out of your life. And when you get to my age, you'll be able to see those old pictures in your album and share the memories with your kids. Whatever happens, good luck!

i agree with ya (prom is not imperative) not gay... well it might be but, hay! who i my to judge it,
i didn't went to one of them i was busy having sex at that time ... but girls see this night as there highlight of their life...
on the other hand, a part of me wishes that I went to it... my advice is you go there ... what the heck It's a one night in your life... what you got to lose...

over the Wii,

i went to private school which didn't have a prom,so yea i feel like i missed out in highschool.i work with alot of kids who are still in highschool,and they all seemed like they had alot of fun,especially if you have alot of friends to hang out with.plus dont people usually have an afterparty,that seems fun.be social.get drunk off yer arse.i have a wiiiii and it is awesome hahahaha.seriously though go to da dayum thang.

My friend, it depends on how you mean. There are 3 definitions of the word gay.

1) Homosexual.
2) Colorful
3)Carefree and merry.

The first I discount, because if the girls want you to take them it cannot be that one.
2 and 3 are both apt descriptions for your proms night. So yes, under that context it is gay.

If you have no desire to attend, DON'T. NO ONE can make you do so. However, I have to warn you your girlfriend may not be that for long after the event if you don't take her! My thoughts only because I am British and as far as I am aware we don't have "Proms"

All girls aren't crazy about prom. I didn't go to mine. I went to one school dance my freshman year, realized how lame it was, and never went again.
It was basically like going to Cowboys. Half rap half country playing and I left with the worst headache from that crap.
Just tell her you'd rather not. She can go with her friends. It's gonna be a big waste of money anyway.

IMO, dont get a GF in highschool. too much time and money wasted n shi.t like that. i thinks, girls shouldent care so much about the damn prom, its not like they will die or anything. even though im just a freshmen in HS, i think that GFs are a waste. i had a GF in middle school, it sucked. the 50$ an hour wasnt worth it anymore =P. but on a serious note, when and if you rent a limo, take it out, go in the DIRECTION of your GFs house, then make the driver take you somewhere like a mall or pizza joint so u can just hang there till prom would be over. save you time, and your precious money. If it was just you then no, there is no reason to go if you really feel that way about it. But you have a girlfriend and thought you might not be with her forever, you are with her now. And if it is important to her, then you should want to do it for no other reason. Get used to it. Doing things you don't want to do is part of being an adult. Compromise is the right thing to do. She should also support the things you might want to do as well so it works both ways. This is why people say it is important to find someone you share interests with. You have known about your prom for years so you should have saved for it. Sounds like you have some growing to do, but this is what growing up is all about. Not playing WII...

about 4 days before the prom, develop a bad case of summertime flu, that way u can be sick, not go and dont have to make a tough decision
