I know a man who is in his late 30s who tries to date women in their mid-20s. Although I think he looks his age, he typically lies to women and tells them that he is only 31 or 32. I think he is being a tool for lying to the women because I assume that if he is lying about his age, he must be lying about other things as well.

But to try to use that tactic to find a woman to have a relationship with? No. Stupid.
As Neuro said its mostly for one night stands so it happens more often in club/bar settings.
If the guy thinks he's got a chance to spend his life with her (if he even plans on it) then he woulnd't do something so foolish.
That's just a small lie, no one will get hurt. Someday when you will be in a real relationship you'll see that sometimes you do things just because it has to be done and those things sometimes are mot morale at all. SO if he's lying bout his age that's not a big deal.
