Is it normal for marijuana to correct anxiety in this way?

Ok, so I've always thought it was somewhat of a contradiction for me, personally, to say marijuana helps me with anxiety because of the paranoia it causes at the peak of highness (for me only in an uncomfortable situation such as driving or not being at home... Or when some crazy thought encompasses my mind). I know this affects people differently.

Now, I've been smoking for many years now and I've noticed weed doesn't instantly settle my anxiety like it does for some, but it does seem to do so in stages. For example, i've had a fear of eating lately which began while i wasn't smoking much and occurs as much during sobriety as when i'm stoned. Last week, i smoked out, hoping to increase my appetite to make food irresistible for me to eat, but i could barely eat while high because of the paranoia aspect with dry mouth. However, going through such increased fear of trying to eat while high seems to give me an increased sense of ease when it comes to eating sober. I guess what i'm saying is that it speeds up the "facing your fears"process for me.

It has been this way with other issues I've had in the past too. Social anxiety -i smoke and become difficult when it comes to talking to people but i realize it's not so bad when i'm not high. It was the same wheni became afraid of driving for a period of time.

Is it normal for weed to solve anxiety this way, or does it just work instantly for you?

If you don't smoke (or eat or vaporize thc) please don't vote :)

Stop smoking man. Some people can handle weed and some can't. You can't. I've been smoking for years and I've met many people who seem to think that weed is going to solve their problems. It won't. Weed is fun and that's about it. If you honestly think weed is going to help you in any way than your delusional. Stop smoking weed, get your shit together, maybe see a therapist and start smoking again when you are no longer such a mess.

It's not weed i can't handle, it's life. I'm saying i smoke less now and my anxieties have increased. I'm talking about problems that have arose within the past year (out of the 10 years that i have been toking) except for the social anxieties, which are not nearly as bad as they used to be.

I beg to differ with your opinion that marijuana is not helpful. Just look at Montel Williams. He uses marijuana daily to relieve the pain of MS.

That said, I'm not using it to relieve anxiety. I never believed it helped me i'm that way. i'm just trying to figure out if it is truly useful for such a thing.

But you know me so well, i guess it's ok for you to judge me.

I've never had problems like that with smoking weed.. if I get paranoid it's just a fear of getting caught. XD I do have problems with anxiety, but I try never to smoke when I'm upset (sometimes my ex would pack a bowl and I wouldnt refuse :x) because I don't want to use it as a crutch. I'm the same person stoned or sober, more or less.

I know a couple bipolar people who are calmed instantly by smoking (depending on their anger level). And i know others who claim marijuana relieves anxiety, but i just don't see how it can work the same as with someone who is angry. Theoretically, marijuana doesn't seem like it would soothe anxiety at all, to me, because of the side effects.

Have you noticed any difference in your personality between when you smoke and don't smoke (if you've gone without for a few months)? For example, i had a friend who made better grades in school when she was smoking once a week.

Adolf hitler was a weed smoker. That's what made him schizophrenic and irrational.

Same one, some dip-shit mod had his panties in a bunch and banned my old account. I usually wouldn't care enough to make a new profile, but fuck them.

Yeah, why are potheads always claiming that they're repressed? If I were an alien studying the internet, I'd think pot is way more widely accepted than alcohol.

Are you in fact an alien studying the Internet?

actually I've read studies which show that weed contributes towards increasing mental illness, the more you smoke, because it permanently alters or destroys brain cells.

In my opinion it's just plain stupid to smoke up-save for those who have chronic physical pain and it helps them.

Some people learn from advice, others learn the hard way. In the end I could care less about anyone in particular, but I do try to through out good advice when I can.

Yes you can. there was this guy who tried pot for the first time at his friend's house and he had a seizure. He survived, but was never the same. He ended up killing an old lady and went to prison.

Weed does not cause seizures and seizures don't cause murder. You can not link one factor to such incidents and call this proof

I would be careful with smoking that stuff. It can alter the way your brain works. There may be a recreational enjoyment but please bear in mind that it isn't so important to rely on it to make you feel better. Eating well, sleeping enough and exercise are better contributors to overcoming things.

The more you can structure you're life and you're mind...
The less anxiety there should be

If you smoke legally, go into your dispensary and ask them about strains that are known to help with anxiety, weed is a medicine and different strains do different things.

Man,i wish it were that simple, but not here. I know someone who was going to try to obtain seeds of a pain relieving herb, but that hasn't even happened. Enough with the bullshit, Florida.

So what your saying is that when your high, normal public interactions are worse and more difficult then when sober and sobriety lets you distinguish this contrast. So your going to test every new scenario by first smoking weed and then doing it sober to beat the anxiety of the situation. Sounds interesting. Just dont do it for job interviews, talking to police or test driving new cars and you should be alright.

It's like this:

I was afraid to drive my car, sober one day. Another day, i end up driving high and freak out a bit more than when sober. I conclude the anxiety of driving high is worse, but i made it through. The next time i drive sober i have less anxiety than the former incident of driving sober.

Lol, I haven't really tested it like that, just making observations. Usually, i just smoke at home at the end of the day. It's just that everyone says weed helps their anxiety, so i'm just trying to figure out how, ya know?
