So my friend asked if she could use my laptop for a project because I have a certain editing program and camera that she could use. And at first a while back I said yes that she can use it, only because I don't want to say No you can't, when in my head I was really didn't want to share it. Well she asked me if she could come over and use and I told her how I really felt, and hope she didn't think I was rude or anything and that I should not have got her hopes up in the first place. Is it normal for me to do this? Or am I just an asshole.

You're not a asshole, but is a bit inconsiderate. However knowing me, I'd probably never agree to it. I'm not doing anything naughty with my laptop, but I just want privacy and I don't want people snooping on my laptop. It's normal and hopefully she'll understand.

You should have been honest about it from the beginning, however it isn't wrong. I don't like people using my things period - I don't know why, but somehow things never come back the way they left, and then I get shitty because others don't care and appreciate your things the way you do.

Hopefully she found another way to get the project done. Can you imagine if she counted on using yours, and didn't have a backup plan? Then you screwed her majorly and she is going to fail!
