Is it normal for my art to be sparatic and random right now?

Is it normal for my art to be random and sparatic right now? I'm in an advanced placement art class at my high school. I recently finished my portfolio and sent it out to colleges. A good part of my art was created on the spot in the rush of things, however. Is art something that can be great quality and still be created in a very short amount of time?

Art can be anything, as long as it's either pretty or has some meaning to it.

If Dali made his paintings within a few minutes instead of a few years, and his paintings looked the same, it'd still be considered art.

i've seen a canvas with stripes and nothing else at a mueseum in dc with a fancy description. in reality, it was just a bunch of stripes.
Just paint what you love, don't worry about consistency or staying within some genre. There are many successful artists who had many different directions in their career. Colleges and Universities lay this whole "paint hundreds of paintings all the same style" thing on young artists and it really messes them up. Paint what you want, if it's good the world will love it. It's what I do and I'm pretty darned successful at it, getting up to 2000 dollars per painting. People have been buying my paintings for years and they are all very different looking from each other.
yes. the best art is straight from the soul, so if you do it quickly that way, then more power to you. every time i work on some form of art, whether its music or writing, the more time i spend on it seems to make it worse.
