There are human rights abuses happening worldwide and yet it's somehow important which hand my fork is in? I cannot thing of anything *less* important.
With silverware and your wife it seems she is just being a control freak.
It's really bad manners to spear your food if you're using chopsticks.
Every culture has their own sets of "proper" dining behaviors.
If you're traveling in these different countries it's good to know. Outside of that and fancy situations, why the hell does it matter?
I don't chew with my mouth open, I keep my elbows tucked in.
I have perfect European style it's just reversed.
When i read the title, i thought you were to guest in India and dared to use your left hand to touch/eat the food. *shrug* There, it would be normal.
As for dining out: Not really, but then, i'm selden if at all in high-class restaurants, so i can't speak for them.
