Is it normal I can't sing anymore?

This isn't really an "is it normal question." I just want to know if anyone has experienced this so I can find some answers. I love to sing, and I used to have a nice voice. I took voice lessons, was in chorus, got good parts in the musicals in high school, etc. I am now 21 and have experienced difficulty for a few years. I often have phlegm in my throat that gets in the way, but even when there's nothing noticeable blocking my singing, I can't make a good sound. My voice cracks and flips, and it's really weak; I have no control of it at all, and I don't transition to different notes well. I hardly sing anymore but I want to figure this out because I can't imagine not being able to sing as a hobby. A doctor told me a few years ago (when my problems started) that I had acid reflux, so I started taking Nexium. That didn't help things, and now I take Dexilant. That helps with heartburn a little but I still have voice problems. Does anyone have a similar story, and have you figured out what to do? I have an ENT appointment next week so I'll share here if I find any answers.

I only sing at the toilet as my arena so maybe do that while you feel "weak". Once I had an acid reflux before but imo, that would've not affected the voice as bad as what you had described. Reflux of acid comes from the stomach going back to the esophagus, leading to chest pains because of the effect of acidity to the adjacent muscles.

I would say blame your respiratory problem, that may have been the culprit.
