Is it normal I don't like how popular kids are portrayed?

I remember when I was in primary, the school was arranging a class trip for a few days. They said you would have four people in each room. Everyone was picking people, and so on. I didn't want to go, so I was just talking with people. The popular kid looked over to see this kid in the same class sitting down with a sad look on his face picking the grass. He said, "actually, hold on. I'm going to go see if ____ wants to be roomates with me". The popular kid wasn't friends with the kid not being picked, he didn't know him much, regardless of that he just walked over and asked him. The look on that kid's face was quite a site. You could tell he was really suprised and happy that someone asked him, and I was really suprised and happy that someone that was the top of the social foodchain in our school went out of his way to ask someone lower down on the "social foodchain".

I think there are two types of popular kid. The ones that are dominant by negativity, and the ones that are dominant by positivity. The positivity ones aren't as around as the negative ones.

I guess it depends what country you are from. I come from a country that is very suspicious of success/power/popularity and always assumes someone has a dark secret; that nobody can actually be what they seem to be. I imagine it gets tiring but it's one of the prices of success here.

The cleverest people are those are successful, powerful or popular without it being overly obvious that they are.

When I was in school the popular kids were kind of jerks. Kind of. And just a few of them, and not as much as portrayed in the media. Some of them just tried too hard to be dominant, didn't take losing well kind of thing. Others were popular cause they were outgoing and nice

Being powerful, popular, and/or successful are three different things.

it´s normal. I remember that once I got transfered to a new school and the popular girls were the first ones to be friends with me, they were nice to me and we are still friends! =)

I've never been through the whole "popular kids in school" thing. I do wonder how it feels. I mean, people can't pretend to be perfect, they're human just like all of us.

I think it's just brining light to the fact that many popular kids gain their popularity through their parent's wealth and through being cruel to other kids.

Yes, in some schools kids can be popular for being excellent in all aspects of their lives and because they are enjoyable to be around, but there is no controversy in that so why make entertainment about it?
