I just joined this site. I think it is very cool and helpful, but I do see that a lot of users are judgemental and just plain nasty. They say the most ignorant and hateful things to people that are just asking for advice and insight on common problems that all of us face, asking if they are normal to feel something. I dont get it we are all here because we were wondering, if WE were normal in some aspect. People we should have empathy for eachother. You can be kind, or have a opinion about something without being a douche bag and still be funny

But if someone has a genuine problem and plucks up the courage to ask, then bullying them here seems almost inhuman. Thankfully there is no way of commenting anonymously, so we can all see who is doing it. And we do not wish them well.
I'm terribly late but, welcome to IIN. ^_^
If thumbs down is going to stay, we should all have it. Not just the old users.
Clearly new users are not the problem, because comments are still being needlessly thumbed down?
We may have fallen into a semantic trap around judgementalism because I was using the perjorative meaning as opposed to consideration.
If you break down my original post, all I said is that if people say something which is deliberately meant to be offensive, I feel I have the right to challenge it.
Can't comment about political correctness because I don't know how it's relevant here.
If an opinion wasn't valid it wouldn't be an opinion. Not Thinking Hitlers opinions were valid IS just an opinion. He thought they were, and by that logic all opinions are valid. Because no one on earth can be the law on opinion, only have their own. Making them all right and wrong at the same time.
"Also everything you or anyone believes is an opinion nothing is fact"
The only thing not valid is that sentence!
illogical and inarticulate dumbass.
You always have some of the best answers. :)
You probably didn't expect this many comments joining this site.
If you want serious answers coming onto the equivalent of a social networking site to find it isnt going to help you one bit. Therapy may, being here wont.
In all the months and months I've been here I can barely recall thinking any user, especially any of the regulars, was only here 'to be mean'. You've only just joined and already deduced 'a lot' are here for only that? That's a big call to make.
Most people are, in fact, just the opposite; eccentric, in some respects. Is it possible to be normal in some respects, and eccentric in others? Absolutely, yes.
Sometimes it can be beneficial (to society) to have an eccentric or normal viewpoint. The opposite, is equally true; sometimes it can be detrimental (to society) to have an eccentric or normal viewpoint.
Sometimes it can be helpful to correct a behaviour (either eccentric or normal) by being mean to them, because they refuse to consider a factual and logical argument in a civilised manner.
With that said, it is my opinion that we should refrain from from being rude or vulgar (or calling people 'names') in any circumstance. It is still possible to be mean to them without resorting to these types of usually ineffective tactics.
