Is it normal that I am truly repulsed by a lot of people at my school?

I'm finishing my last year of high school right now and I am so excited to get out of this shit hole. Just 2 years ago I used to be like a lot of people at my school. I used to skip class to smoke weed, steal stuff and just generally be an ungrateful asshole of a teenager. It wasn't weird. 50% of my school is still like that. Just the past year though, my view of a lot of the kids I go to school with has changed dramatically. I guess I grew up.

I see kids take their parents lunch money, buy weed with it and then skip class to smoke it. There was a giant change box for charity at the front of my school. A couple of kids fucking stole it. Honestly, a quarter of the people in my school just sit in the parking lot playing hacky sack all day, when they're failing every class. I still smoke weed in the evenings sometimes and on the weekend but they've almost ruined it for me. I love to blaze cause it gets me in the mind state where I can push my ego aside but for them it's just something to do because they don't want to actually do anything.

I am honestly repulsed by this school and when I graduate and go off to university I never want to see it again. I can't help but feel for these kid's parents and how disappointed they must be. God, I hope university is better. I feel like I'm surrounded by the scum of the earth here. They are given every opportunity and they just don't give a fuck. The principals literally have to go and find people because kids will go to the school but won't actually go to class for days at a time.

Maybe I'm overreacting but I feel like I'm going to school at a prison. I honestly know tons of people who've waited till they're 16 and dropped out that day. None of them have jobs, some even still come to chill in the school parking lot and the only reason they still have a home is because their parents can't bring themselves to kick them out.

You're talking about a building filled mainly with people that do not want to be there, but are obligated either by the law or their parents to do so.

I'm glad you grew up, but for some people it takes a little while longer and then again some of them might not grow up at all. University would be perfect, for sure, as you will have kids in there that don't really give a shit but only go because Mom and Dad will pull their money if they don't go, or because they have no initiative to do something else with their lives.

No I'd say normal. Definitely normal for high school but no matter where you go, there will always be a handful of assholes that make the rest of us seem more disgusting than we really are. Remember, evil is louder than good.

Yeah, it was like that in public high school so after graduation I became a bit of a recluse, realising along the way those are just stupid kids you don't see much of as a successful adult. Then again, some of the more privileged ones do make it to college, but they either get a hold of life or get thrown out then... anyway it's respectable of you to let go of the bad behaviors, you will make something of your life unlike those others...

Normal- i felt that way in hs too, but there was little opportunity for people to better in my situation. it's great that you saw the light. Something other than the local community college should ne better (ours is just like hs...) But try to dampen the disdain: remember you were one of them up until recently. Hopefully they will have an epiphany like you, though.

Haha I'm typically not as pissed about it as it may seem from what I wrote. That was pretty much me letting it all out. It's almost a little depressing to be honest. It seems like they're just "passing the time" everyday like they're waiting for something. What are they waiting for? Fuck if I know. Doubt they know either. Thanks everyone for the positive responses. Glad to see I'm not just overreacting.

I too am repulsed by a lot of people. The majority of people seem to be both ugly and stupid. I can put up with one or the other, but not both.

You should be happy that only 50% of your school was like that. At my school it had to be, at least, 80 something percent. Those kids were horrible, and I couldn't stand not a one of them. I was the kind of kid who stayed to myself, and just wrote in my journal while everyone else did they're bad deeds. Don't sweat it. I never liked a majority of the kids in my school and if I went back, I still wouldn't. Lol, they were seriously some of the worst people I've ever met in my life.

So it got better after high school?

For me, a little bit. There are still some people, in my age group, that I still don't care for, but I think in high school, so many kids are busy trying to "fit in" that they tend to piss others off without realizing it or maybe on purpose, but I think after high school, everyone matures a little more, and you start to see most of your peers in a better perspective.

you yourself participated in the same kind of activity, so you shouldn't be repulsed by the fact that some people haven't changed. the people who stole the charity money however, really are the scum of the earth.
