Is it normal that I did this on my first gay club experience?

Well a good friend of mine was leaving to another state, and so he invited me to his go away party at a gay club. My mom said it was okay(her being a lesbian, she was more excited than I), I had to get used to dancing but eventually I loosened up and throughout this experience this one blonde guy around my age, like 19 kept eyeing me. He was cute, so I found myself eyeing him back. My mom had to leave early, so she left me there(my friend was gonna drive me back home) ,so after she left the guy asked me to dance, and we ended up doing a half waltz half grind slow dance to this oldee song. That was my favorite part, we danced like that for nearly an hour, it is so far one of most memorable experiences ever, because only having had one boyfriend, being close and intimate like that with someone, was amazing. Was that a normal way to dance?
