Is it normal that I never talked to my dad about myself?

Wow, sounds a lot like my dad. My dad is very emotionally distant from his kids and we NEVER talk unless he's telling us what to clean....I try to avoid him because he makes me feel awkward and everytimehe sees me he tells me to clean the house or else he gets mad.

It is normal that one parent will be closer to their children than the other. Many times, parents will lack the ability to become close with their children for whatever reason.

I barely ever talk to my parents about myself. I'm not close to my dad, he only started sort of acting like a dad when I was 16/17, and my mom is always off in her own little word where by the time she let's me talk I'm already pissed off.

I would say that it is normal. But I'm not advising you to not talk to your dad about your life whether or not he's interested in knowing. He is your father after all.

Try starting off with a simple and good thing about yourself that happened in school. See how he reacts.

I'm not sure if you're a boy or a girl but if you're a male:
in my perspective, spending more time with a mother rather than a father tend to make the child tender and gentle which pretty much leads to being more feminine or homosexuality. (I might be wrong but it happens)

If that's not what you want then I suggest that you have more conversations with your dad and keep the relationship strong.
