Okay so here's the deal, this is a very weird phenomenon that has been happening to me over the last 10 years - ever since I was a kid. However, recently it has become much more frequent and it really freaks me out!
Sometimes when I'm sitting in bed about to fall asleep I realized that I really am unable to imagine this shape or that. It usually surfaces in two methods. Let's say I am trying to image a regular cube, coloured red for instance. This cube, when the phenomenon is happening, either changes colour instantly or changes shape instantly. Colour-wise, the cube I am trying to imagine in my head quickly becomes very bright and white along with it's surroundings eventually the entire vision in my head becomes white or it goes the other way around and instantly turns charcoal black and the entire vision in my head becomes dark and charcoal black. Shape-wise, the cube is either thinned out to an extent that it ceases to exist or it is stretched beyond the visual borders of my imagination. This happens when I try to imagine anything, usually with faces and objects, it's really frightening. Sometimes, because it's so intense, I literally cannot shut my eyes.
Also, I must bring out the fact that this happens more often if I smoke before going to bed, but it did happen frequently before I started smoking.
I wonder if it's physiological or psychological.
Sorry for the long post, any comment is much appreciated. Thanks!
