Is it normal to be EXTREMELY scared of flies?

My friend used to live in Ethiopia when she was younger. She said she's seen dead bodies with their arms ripped off covered in flies. But she lives in the USA now on the east coast. Everytime there is a fly she FREAKS out. One time a fly touched her shoe, she then washed her hands 106 times and threw away her shoes. If there's a fly anywhere relatively near her food, she'll stop eating because "a fly couldve touched that". I try to tell her that flies aren't the same here as they are in africa, but she doesn't believe me. IIN?
