Some people delude themselves into thinking that settling with someone who is less than perfect is the same as settling for less than they deserve. I'd say both genders do it pretty well, I know men that won't settle for anything less than a girl who looks like she's stepped out of a magazine and women who think they deserve Brad Pitt when they ain't no Angelina Jolie.
I chock it up to fear. It's one thing to not want to settle for T Diggy the dip shit gangster but when someone comes along that is great for you, those standards are about as good as building a wall between yourself and every potential mate you find.
