Is it normal to have Janis Joplin as my role model?

She was an incredible person with something just... magnetic about her. I feel the same about her as other members of the "27" club; Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse. I'd never advocate their lifestyles but when you burn that brightly, I guess it's obvious you're not going to get to burn for long.

Even among that group, Janis Joplin was special. Music, drugs, and writing aside, her personality was a force of nature and she bowed to nobody. Combine that with her voice and you find a person with something to say, the artistic skill to say it, and the voice to make people listen.

She was rare and precious; a better role model than virtually anyone I can think of who is in the public eye right now.
