Crazy US people. I note that you are one of the only countries that still think spanking your child is a good idea. That'll learn him! Stuff the WORLD research that says otherwise.

Here's an idea. TALK to him about what he did wrong.
Maybe he hasn't learned right from wrong clearly yet.
Let him know why it is wrong where you are, and how people live together in a community or home.

15 (just like my son) is a difficult age. But they are not beyond reason. You know similar to a 5yo.

Punishment? That's for the law to decide.
At home its about guidance and communication.

His room? Where his cell phone, TV, bed, and computer is? Right. Doesn't seem like much of a punishment for his age to be honest..

I don't really see the problem. A good one will probably be to put him in "time-out" for a certain amount of time in a corner or in some other room. While he waits he can think about things.

I honestly don't know. I'm not a parent and, as a child, I wanted as far away from my parents as I could possibly be. In some ways, it doesn't seem like a punishment. I'm a grown man now and there are plenty of times in my life where I growl and think, "I wish I could go to my room".

Nahh. Like someone already stated, his room is probably like a playground basically. I'm sure he has a tv, numerous video games, computer, cell phone, etc.
Plus, a fifteen year old is too old to be sent to their room..in my opinion.

Try something else, like taking away privileges.

Ohh my gosh you just reminded me of when my mum used to make my brother and I sit in the laundry for 30+ mins when we did something wrong. THAT was a shit punishment (for us).

It depends on him. Only you really know your child, and what is best for him when it comes to punishment. Just like time out works on some small children, while others it doesn't, it depends on the kid. Does sending him to his room seem to be working? Have you seen a change in his behavior since you've been doing that? If not, then you might try another strategy.

Sending a 15 year old to their room isn't going to do anything, and neither is spanking.

Your son got it made I used to get the belt or bar of soap in the mouth oh and can't forget the hour or hours of haveing to sit at the table.

It's a punishment unless he has a laptop. Or a TV. Or an Xbox, Nintendo... phone...

Does your son hate his room? If not it's probably a stupid punishment. If your son hates his room, that's stupid too.

I still think the way I was raised worked just fine. You break a rule, you get your ass whooped.

My parents had very specific rules set, and I knew exactly what would happen if I broke one. Guess how many times it took me to learn? I screwed up one time, and that was that!
