When my teen (15 years old) does something somewhat bad, I will punish him by sending him to his room...is that a good punishment? is it normal???

Is It Normal?

Here's an idea. TALK to him about what he did wrong.
Maybe he hasn't learned right from wrong clearly yet.
Let him know why it is wrong where you are, and how people live together in a community or home.
15 (just like my son) is a difficult age. But they are not beyond reason. You know similar to a 5yo.
Punishment? That's for the law to decide.
At home its about guidance and communication.
Good luck with learning that. From what I have gathered it may take you years to understand.
That's why you have to punish them, if you talk to them they'll just tune you out and tell their friends how lame their parents are or something.
Sad, but true.
I mean generally 'boys' do get up to mischief when young (girls too of course, but possibly not as bad when very young) Anyway, they don't stay this way forever because they LEARN through communication and society that its just not accepted. So the talk should still be given to those who don't fully accept it yet.

I would have just read a book or done something on the computer at that age. Not really efficient as a punishment.
It only works if you disconnect the power too.
Plus, a fifteen year old is too old to be sent to their room..in my opinion.
Try something else, like taking away privileges.
You get my point.
My parents had very specific rules set, and I knew exactly what would happen if I broke one. Guess how many times it took me to learn? I screwed up one time, and that was that!
