Is it normal to talk to your dog?

Last night my sister spent two full hours talking to our family dog in her room. She said that she really enjoyed it and that every once and a while that Shadow (dog) would scoot closer and lick her hand in a concerned way. I always knew that we left her alone too much in our house but has she gone off the deep end?
Do you think it's normal?

Talking to your pets is normal, but TWO HOURS? That's insane. Seriously what can you possibly have to say to an animal that can't talk back for two hours? Maybe she just likes to hear herself talk. Most girls/women do.

Two hours is a little extreme. However, it could mean that she just needs to spend a little bit more time with some friends and that she could feel lonely, misunderstood, or is just tired of people constantly not paying attention to what she is saying and she needs a new outlet.

Ya, talking to your pet for like a second is normal, but two whole hours? maybe the dog talked back. You never know. Haa. just kidding. But that would be so creepy if it did.

Why shouldn't she talk to the dog for 2 hours! It will listen but not answer back and sure as hell will not start telling all her friends what she said!
As humans, we take dogs as pets and treat them as a member of our families. Why shouldn't she take it one step further? POWER to her I say.

lol i do u blame her for being like that if she's really lonely? I agree she needs to have some friends she can really talk to and express her real self and be accepted.

Maybe she was venting about her day/week?
You guys might be just looking into it too much. I talk to my kitty Tiger if I had a really stressing day, only because he responds to my voice, gets all happy & purrs abunch while cuddling with me. I mean, two hours is a bit much, but maybe she wasn't talking the whole time, maybe it was on & off while just petting him & such.

alright here we go.
First off it is not abnormal to talk to your pets.
i personally lead a very fulfilling life and im not lonely in the least. I speak with my dog for hours on end as a way to bond with her.
not to mention it very therapeutic to her and myself. she relaxes listening to my voice (and normally falls asleep..lol) and i get to talk to someone whose non judgmental. Some one who will listen to me and not say well my day was tougher ... blah blah blah...

so on a whole no its NOT weird ti talk to your pet .

When I have a particularly boring text book that I have to read for class, I sometimes will read it aloud to my dog in a British accent. She always falls asleep, but it helps me to stay awake. Or maybe she just feels more comfortable telling things to the dog because she knows tat the dog can't tell anyone else. I think it's normal, as long as the dog never talks back :)

2 hours is a lot to talk to an animal, but your sister probably loves Shadow alot, so it is really normal for her to talk to him for quite awhile. Its very calming really.

Well, to a certain extent its ok. Every day when i come home and my dog runs to the door with his tail wagging, I say "Hi Fuzzy! How are you?" and his response is running around and licking and more tail wags lol. I do it even though i know he can't talk. Or sometimes when i walk him i'll say stuff like he understands it, like "ok, you've been really good. When we go home you get a treat. Don't pull too hard on the leash...we're going this way, not that way!" lol so yeah...
