That's exactly how I got my cats! All five cats were strays, and I got the fifth one when he just walked into the kitchen, meowing. I thought it was someone's cat, so I didn't keep him in until I was sure he was a stray.

In my opinion you are normal, and we are much alike. We both love animals, yes? :)

Im the same way! I was driving today and saw two dogs on the side if the road(55mph speed limit) and i started to tear up

Hahaha :D This is JUST like my last girlfriend! She even picked up a bee while it was raining, and put it under a leaf so that it wouldn't drown. Id say this is pretty normal, and that you're a kind person :)
