Is it normal to watch anime?

I love to watch anime, however i've always wondered why it is so taboo to outright talk about it in public?

people seem to have no problems talking about comics batman,spiderman,or superman so why not anime? it seems to me anytime i mention it to someone i meet the conversation gets awkward as if i've said something weird like... "after school i like to sneak into a nuclear powerplant roll around and pretend im a glow worm"

So, why is it that anime is such a conversation killer in today's society?

I watch anime... a lot, but I don't like telling people about it because I don't want to seem like another weeaboo / otaku. Most weeaboos give other people who watch anime a bad name and when ever you talk badly about the anime they like, they get angry as hell. Its fun to mess with them, but sad because they take it too seriously.

Theirs people that watch anime and theirs people that watch anime and begin to absorb it. People that absorb it become infatuated with Asian culture, start wanting to learn japense, eating sushi and shit all the time, drinking saki ect. I don't really need to go into the hentai everyone knows it doesn't help the image.

Pretty much when people start watching exclusively anime and are always looking for the new anime to get into it changes people. I enjoyed a few anime shows when I was a teenager. Never really saw how people can become so heavily involved with anime though.

It's okies, I always get :D when someone else likes it as well XD I love all the characters apart from Misa and Light but my faves are L, Mello, Ryuk and Matt XD

I watch anime and read manga and lots of people do. It's about finding people who like it as well, I mean, I don't care what people think of me and to illustrate my point - I <3 Mello! XD

Maybe your friends just don't share similar interests. I've lost some Twitter followers who I thought were my friends, maybe because I talk about my favourite music and television programmes a lot :/ oh well...

I'm sure you can find a message board or something and find other anime fans. I like some anime/manga...not into hentai though lol

because most people don't watch anime, everyone has their own style and to be honest if you think about it..: you're friend comes up to you and starts talking about how amazing the movie "Master of the 3 skyborns" is and tells you all about it, you don't exactly care to hear about it because you do not understand it and it's something you must see for yourseld to take the most interest in it. I dunno if you know what i mean cuz i'm confusing myself, but as long as you dont watch porn filled animes, you're totally fine :)

Anime is one of those things that has a social stigma attached to it for some reason. I can't really explain why, it just...does. Computer gaming sometimes does. Some music groups do. Pro wrestling also does. I wish I knew why!

Yes, it is totally normal. Once you break the ice and find someone else who loves anime or cartoons the conversation is so much fun. Me and a friend went off on Pokemon, yuyuhakusho, And all the series of digimon. It was do fun and freeing. We formed a group and had a marathon a week later, lol. Love college

Totally normal. people need to get over the misconception that its childish or perverted. Entertainment wise it is as valid as any show with real life actors but people just judge it all as a kids show or hentai. there is actually an unbelievably wide range of shows out there but people don't give it a chance.

i love anime and have found the same problems in the past. your just trying to talk to the wrong people about the wrong things for instance: my football coach loves talking tactics in practice, if i bring the same convo up say on a date with a girl, unless they are extremely polite they are going to be like shut the fuck up with that boring shit. so try asking simple question like do you like anime b4 trying to talk someone min by min through the fist of the north star :)

Well maybe Anime reminds people of hentai porn? You know those videos with hentai porn. Personally I dont like anime myself. Firstly it's weird the way they draw and animate them and look at the way they talk! The way they move their lips is so fake and sometimes the voice and the mouth talking are not in sync. Sorry but anime is crap. Not trying to offend anybody whatsoever!

Just because you don't like the art style of anime doesn't make it crap. There's so much of a variety of anime, I'm sure anyone can find at least one anime series that they like.

From what I've seen, hentai is pretty much porn. Pokémon was originally made in Japan; therefore, it's an anime. Shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender aren't anime because they aren't made in Japan.

considering i have a impressive anime collection ithink not & its only taboo because people think that anime are simply cartoons like "Cow & Chicken" even tho most anime carries the seriousness of a "TrueBlood" or "Game Of Thrones" except its animated so when looked at in that light it is abit weird to people who arent fans of it due to the lack of understanding,people also assume every anime fan is a cosplayer*google it if you dont know abut cosplay*& even i find those people odd lol its normal,its just nerdy to most people

whatever, it what u like. if ur friend dont like it then find and group of ppl with similar interestto talk anime about. and with the confidence from or other anime watching friend u can talk about it with the other group as if it was anything else. i mean would it be weird if someone was talking about a sport u didnt like,maybe a lil boring to u. But i dont see the diffrence.

Join an anime club if you want to talk about anime. Most people don't like anime and probably will think your a loser for liking it so much. That is the truth im sure you knew this already though.

...Yeah, childish nerds and perverts watch really good shows like Fullmetal Alchemist or Trinity Blood. Saying that only perverts and childish nerds like anime is the same thing as saying that only childish nerd and perverts watch movies or tv shows.

Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the best animated shows I've seen in general, anime or not. Anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, Hellsing, and Gankutsou have more depth and thought to them than Adventure Time, Chowder, or whatever they have on Cartoon Network now.

...And seeing as how popular Fullmetal Alchemist is, you've probably never watched any anime, and only judge it by the insane fangirls who give people who watch anime a bad name. Just like there's a movie or book for anyone, there's an anime for anyone.

You're just proving yourself to be an ignorant troll by saying Fullmetal Alchemist and Trinity Blood are as "deep" as whatever they show on Cartoon Network.
